Wes Pearce was the guest of honour on Saturday evening when his family honoured him at a dinner party on the occasion of his 85th bir- thday held at Conway Place, Port Perry. Janet, a graduate of Port Perry High School, is employed with Dr. Kevin Brown, Markham, Ontario. George Carnochan, Lesley and Joy, R.R.2, Port Perry. Following din- ner, guests were invited to the home of Joyce and Alvin Heayn for birth- day cake and an evening of visiting - and reminiscing. _ Alarge number of women joined in the Blackstock United Church for a bridal shower for Caroline Car- noghan. After opening the numerous gifts Caroline thanked the women and proceeded to fill in details of her husband-to-be. A delicious lunch and visiting followed. Five ladies-Elaine Bailey, Ruby and Jill VanCamp, Joyce and Elizabeth Kelly attended a bridal shower in honour of Karen Rodman on Friday in Little Britain. The first Nursery School Meeting of the year will be held on August 26th at the Recreation Centre at 7 p.m. Doug Bird will be the guest speaker on CPR. Saturday evening about fifty friends and relatives enjoyed a 30th Anniversary of Pat and Andy Anderson of Scarborough held at their daughter's home Carolyn and Pete Lucifora on the East Boundary road. From Blackstock were Roger and Ethel Lafontaine and Nancy and Bob Bryans. Jens and Karen Eriksen from Norresuwdbx, Denmark are visiting his aunt, Lisa and John Kristensen recently. Recently Nancy Bryans was a . luncheon guest along with her aunt Mary Meldrum, Port Hope at her mom Babe Brown's home, McLaughlin Square, Oshawa. Many of our local residents have been travelling lately. Vera and Vernon Asselstine have returned from a six week trip out west with Vern's sister Fern and Carl Webb of Trenton. Karen and Paul Radford and Kimberly have visited Expo and stayed with Paul's brother. From the other direction of the country-Ralph and Peggy Larmer attended niece's Janice Yellowlees wedding in New Brunswick." While there they visited son, John and toured area sites. Earle and Mar- jorie Bradburn and Donald enjoyed last week travelling to Quebec. They toured the local fisheries at Cabot Trail with greatest interest. Margaret and Tony Duivestyn holidayed in the Maritimes and toured the Cabot Trail. Carl and Jean Adams have been vacationing in the West. Three of our younger residents are returning home after lengthy sabbaticals. Carla Adams and Dianna Fletcher are home after working at the Lake Louise Inn in Lake Louise, Alberta. Closer to home Howard Bailey has finished his summer courses and is home from Waterloo. Employees of Web Offset Publica- tions gathered at the home of Jim Weir on 'Saturday for a barbecue and party. A good time was had by all. This week's winner of the card party were Belle Werry - the lady that "never" wins at cards; 2 - Florence Larmer; 3 - Ann Taylor; 4 - Clarence Masters; 5 - Verna Slute; 6 - Susie Harris; Nerta Masters - Low. Draws were won by Ethel Goble, Edna Larmer and Doris Evans. Plans are well underway for the Blackstock Fair to be held this weekend. See you there! We are looking for children aged 6-12 to form a Junior section of the Pine Ridge Garden Club. The children will be offered a program of topics of interest to their age groups at their own monthly meeting. Purple Hill School students will be gathering on Sunday for their se- cond re-union. It starts at the school and proceeds to the Rec. Centre for visiting and a pot-luck supper. A portable classroom has heen added which will enable the library to be used ex- clusively as a library. The science lab has been renovated and moder- nized. In addition Cartwright High School is offering several courses in the first semester that would be of particular interest to adults. These courses are: Creative Writing, Typ- ing (an introductory course), Ac- counting (an introductory course), Law, Computer Science, & Business Practice.
