Local team at OV tournament This past weekend saw a locally sponsored team travel to Niagara Falls to participate in the OV Slo- Pitch Provincial Championships. When it was all over and done with Doug's Refinishing had finished in a respectable 10th position out of 128 teams in the "DD Division. In the first game Friday the team spotted Harper's Hammers a 3 run lead before they bounced back to win 10-6. Rob Galbraith's bat did the most damage as he knocked in 4 runs with 3 coming off a homer. In game two Friday the lads struck early and came away with a 9-4 win. Rick Bayard and Robin Kydd had 2 RBIs each in this match to lead the offence. The club went on the field bright and early Saturday and coasted to an 11-2 score over McPhee's at "Results of Men's SUMMERLEA INVITATIONAL Ist PRIZE - Art Schafer 2nd PRIZE - Mike Bond . 3rd PRIZE - Randy Robertson ... 64 HOLE IN ONES: Bill Hopkins....... Robert Stephens Virgil Park. A 2 run homer by Grant Curnow and a 2 run double by Gerry Ranich provided the spark. Game No. 4 Saturday afternoon was the closest match as Curnow's 2 run double in the bottom of the seventh inning provided the margin of victory in a 9-8 score. Patierice proved the best part of this game as the team drew 9 walks to get run- ners on the base paths. Farly Sunday morning the team took to the field to play House of Lancaster from Toronto who prov- ed to be in a higher division as the local club was soundly dumped by a 14-2 count in 5 innings. Both runs were knocked in by Carnow and Rick Bayard. The final game of the weekend saw Doug's take on the Hampton A's and they lost a squeaker by 10-7. This resulted in the team having to pack up and head for home. The club had earlier qualified for the Provincials by winning a Regional tournament in Peter- borough on the May long weekend. But thanks to a fine pitching effort by Paul Wylie and hitting by Jason Buller, Chris Moore and David LeRoy, the team battled back for an important win over Milbrook to keep their tournament hopes alive and earn a berth in the final. Troy Irving was on the mound for Port Perry in the final against Pon- typool and he pitched his way to a 12-10 victory.
