Top prize a cool $4,000 cash Local man pulls kids from water A Port Perry man is being called a hero, after rescuing two children from drowning in Lake Ontario near Trenton. Everett Kelly, 26, was swimming off Sandbanks Provincial Park on Saturday when he saw Sonia Allen, 12, and Wade Armsworthy, 13, in trouble. He told reporters that memories of a drowning at the same beach 10 years ago prompted him to fight a deadly undertow in order to prevent the two adolescents from being swept out into the lake. Battling waves three or four feet high, Mr. Kelly swam to Sonia first and started pulling her to shore. He managed to bring her halfway back when he heard the boy screaming for help. Exhausted after saving the girl, he had trouble with the boy. He " couldn't move his arms and Mr. Kel- "ly was afraid they wouldn't make it to shore. It took him nearly half an hour but eventually the pair did make it to shore safely. The girl, Sonia, called Mr. Kelly a hero. -"I'm really glad he was there," she told reporters. 'I thought I was going to die. He came out and every time a wave came up he'd go under it and hold me up." Stass, who fished mostly in very shallow areas along the northwest shore of Scugog, recorded a total weight of 22.12 pounds of bass for the two day event. Bob Amell of the Pro Bass Association said Lake Scugog was selected for the finale on Sunday because it was here that the Pro Bass competitions were first held three years ago.
