{ on Jim Grieve presents the IGA trophy to win- ning team at the 1986 Port Perry Rotary Club tournament held last week at Sunnybrae. Les Kababik accepted the troohy for team members Glen Van Camp, Greg Heffering and John McClelland. The Henry MacDonald team from Lindsay and the Chuck Dewhirst team were tied for second. Tim Thompson and Greg Heffering both fired a 78 to tie for low gross for the day. More than fifty golfers enjoyed the tournament. Port defeats Newcastle The Port Perry Kinsmen Pee Wee soccer team played their semi-final play-off game against Newcastle "and came home with a 5-2 win. Jamie Bi . ¥n played an outstan- ding game and scored 4 out of our 5 goals. Jason Towns worked very effectively and assisted on 2 of Jamie's goals. Drew Cardinal also assisted on a goal. Jason Reetham- Clayton scored his goal after Alec Cramner passed the ball to him from a corner kick by Jamie Brown. Even though most of the goals were by one player, this game would "not have turned out this way if all the players had not been passing and working so well together. Great job boys! On Saturday the team travelled to Thornhill to compete in a tourna- ment, but the wet field and cold day seemed to take its toll. The boys tied their first game and lost the other 2. Jerry Taylor, Yvorine Christie and Ron McDonald saw to it that we had two diamonds to play on with the enlargement of the North Diamond. Steve Bull spent numerous hours working on the diamonds to get them in shape. Larry Mabley and Wayne Fox helped us with the lighting and also were willing to help us anyway they could. Thanks to Ken Goreski for the use of his vacuum to take the water off the fields which were saturated from last week's rains. Many more people helped than I've mentioned and Once again | thank everybody for amost successful tournament and -- Yours in sport, DOUG SCOTT | In the first game against Lake Simcoe both teams had trouble scor- ing the first half, but with 4 minutes left Simcoe shot one over the finger- tips of goalie Greg Neve. In the se- cond half Lake Simcoe scored-again before Port's Jamie Brown was able to put one through their goalies legs. The assist was from Jason Towns. Drew Cardinal tied the game when he headed the ball into the net off a corner kick by Jamie Brown. Goaltender Greg Neve was able to stop 14 shots on net and Jeff Parry and Jason Towns also played outstanding games. Port's second game was against Malton and we lost 4-1. Jamie Brown scored our only goal but this was due to hard work by Alec Cramner and Drew Cardinal who set the goal up. Ron Rankin, John Cook, Jason Towns and: Dave Cosway were on defence and tried hard but couldn't hold back this strong team. Port's last game was unfortunate- ly what you would refer to as "a sad state of affairs!!"' The boys looked cold and tired and that's how they played. Woolwich defeated us 7-1. Jamie Brown scored Port's only goal on an unassisted effort. Better luck next time, guys. Gamblers winit all (From page 23) p.m., the temperature had dropped considerably. Fan attendance on both days was overwhelming, thanks in part to the fact that two local teams were in the thick of the race, and the fact that the calibre of play was first-class. OASA officials and President Jack Cook Jr. of Port Perry were delighted with the crowds, and gate receipts were said to be in excess of $1500. Ten teams participated in the an- nual tournament held at Seagrave last weekend. Under the expert coaching of Bert Hutcheon and Dan Harris, - Seagrave Turkey Power captured the championship after defeating Nestleton, Blackstock, Greenbank, and Manilla's Jolly Rogers. The Seagrave bats just couldn't be The Durham Region Family YMCA floor hockey league for girls and boys is now entering its second season in both Port Perry and Blackstock and hopes to bring more fun and excitement to all those new and returning players. Floor hockey is a non-contact sport played with plastic sticks and pucks on a gymnasium floor. The game is simple and safe with few rules and it can be mastered quick- ly. It emphasizes alertness and movement rather than strength or height.
