wi HNL EE HELA cet REN I = RECS Seagrave and Area News by Marilyn Beacock Congratulations to the winner of the Powder Puff Derby. Mrs. Valle Harris which was part of the ver) successful Sunderland Fair's Demoliton Derby held last Wednes- day evening. Valle also won a trophy for the best paint job on her machine. We're proud of you Valle ,-- is the Indy 500 next on the list? Our Sunday School children and teachers welcomed us to their Ral- ly Day service last Sunday when many were presented with atten- dance awards. Of interest to many was a summary of the history of the Seagrave Sunday School dating back to its inception around 1860 which is as far back as records are available. Diane Knutson research- ed the data for this and is to be com- mended for doing an excellent job. Diane had planned to also deliver this to the congregation last Sunday, but due to a very exciting ball game on Saturday, she found on Sunday morning that her voice had disap- peared so her co-superintendent Ellen Bruce offered kindly to assist her. If you wish a copy of this very in- teresting and informative bit of history I believe some copies are still available at the back of the church. A number of close friends, neighbours and relatives gathered in the Church basement on Friday evening to honour our bride and groom-to-be Miss Penny Pettinger and Mr. Bill Short with a shower of lovely and useful gifts for their new home. This happy young couple will be exchanging their marriage vows on October 4th and we wish them much happiness and prosperity in the years to come. Glad to note that Fred and Jessie Nobbs are both back at home follow- ing recent hospital stays in Port Perry. We wish a steady recovery for Mrs. Edna Buma, Irene Manitius's mother, who took seriously ill while visiting friends and relatives in Holland recently. Parents of the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts may register their children at the Seagrave United Church on Wed. Sept. 17th, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. A special date to set aside is Sun- day Sept.28th at 11:00 a.m. when Seagrave United Church will be hosting their church anniversary.
