Judo program back at the Port Perry Y Judo returns to the YMCA Fall Programs after a three-year absence and can be enjoyed by both boys and girls age 8-14. Judo is a contest of skill and quickness. You try to win by throw- ing or holding your opponent on the mat...all in fun of course. In a judo class the students will learn the principles of judo, which means being able to give way to so- meone's force and then utilizing that to overcome them. Students are usually graded on their ability to change directions fluently, their balance and their spirit or Kkiai which is a form of concentration. The YMCA has recruited Duncan Vignale as the instructor for this course, He has his 5th Degree Black Belt, has been a head coach for the . past four years and has been on the provincial grading board for 6 years. Judo isn't easy, it takes stamina, speed and power and therefore ex- ercise is an integral part of the pro- gram. For this reason the course runs twice a week so as the par- ticipants will benefit the most from the stretching and strengthening exercises. For more details on this NEW judo program call the YMCA Pro- gram Co-ordinator, Marilyn Pearce at 985-2824.
