In the morning many were in attendance at the regular service of the United Church. Rev. D. Davis's sermon 'Doing Our Best' referred _ often to the promises made by members of the various groups represented. The Religion in Life Emblems were presented by the leaders and Mr. Davis to the follow- ing -- Level I (Yellow) Heather Goulding, Todd Moore, Heide Obstfeld, Josh Wilson; Level II (Green) Jennifer Byers, Stacey Swain; Level III (Blue) Jennifer Fletcher, Lorrie Swain, Jill Van Camp; Level IV (Red) to Esther Kelly, Julie Byers. Sunday School Superintendent Judy Gilbank and her assistant Bar- rie Van Camp presented Bibles to the following students who are mov- ing from the Primary to Junior Departments -- David Kemp, Heather Goulding, Katie Coates, Kirk Swain, Ryan Larmer, Michael Leeming, Scott Swain and Tony Waldriff. In the afternoon a very im- pressive Awards Ceremony was held for the Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders and Rangers in the United Church. Following the pro- cessional and the singing of O Canada, the Colours were presented to Rev. D. Davis, after which Mr. Davis welcomed everyone. During the ceremony which involved all groups Blackstock Brownies, Joanne Brown, Heather Goulding, Jade McKendry, Sharon Locke, and Caesarea Brownies Michelle Dean, Tracy Doyle, Heather Malcojm and ~ Tara Schnavel all few up to the Guides. Blackstock Guides Chantal Belanger and Jennifer Lee advanc- ed to Pathfinders and Pathfinder Scugog Gl (TA & Water St.) ass & Mirror LAKEVIEW PLAZA, PORT PERRY Esther Kelly completed Pathfinders and advanced to Rangers. Guides Jennifer Lee and Chantal Belanger each received their All- Round Cords and Esther Kelly received her Canada Cord. Elaine Kelly was presented with the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award and Esther Kelly and Julie Byers receiv- ed the Duke of Edinburgh's Silver Awards. The honoured girls receiv- ed presentations from the Units, from the District by Commissioner Fletcher, from the Division by Com- mission Curtin and by their proud fathers. Councillor N. McLaughlin presented an Ontario Plaque to Esther Kelly for achieving her Canada Cord. Long service pins were presented by Commissioner Fletcher to Joan Swain, Brenda Bryant and Wendy Dyer for five years service and to Jessie Gunter for 20 years service. After singing Let There Be Peace On Earth, Rev. A. Tucker conclud- ed the programme with prayer. The Colours were returned by Rev. D. Davis, Taps sung and the Colour -- Party left. A lovely reception was held in the Christian Education Building with grandmothers and friends pouring tea. Mr. and Mrs. James McHarg of Kingston spent a few days with their daughter Talya and Denzil Moore and Todd. The A.C.W. meeting was held at the home of Norma Wolfe in Port Perry. Among the business items discussed were making plans for the annual St. John's Church supper to be held this year on October 25. Lunch and a social time conclud- ed the meeting. Thelma and Lloyd Wright attend- ed the 40th Reunion of Pe Normal School on Saturday when Thelma enjoyed meeting many of her classmates from many parts of Ontario. Many from the Blackstock area enjoyed attending Bobcaygeon Fair on Saturday. Esther Kelly won first prize for her float decorated with agricultural produce in the opening parade. Percy and Elva Van Camp, Mer- rill and Norma Van Camp along with their company Agnes Porter and Elizabeth Loney, Valerie Van Camp attended Jamie Atfield's third party held at this home in Scarborough. Hosts were his parents Marie and Bob Atfield, and little brother Mark. Jamie Atfield's relatives from Kingston were also present to help celebrate his birth- day. Happy birthday, Jamie. Glad to report that Mrs. Elva Toms and Bill Mahaffy in Oshawa Hospital and Ev Trewin in Port Perry are all showing improvement. Henry and Muriel Wotten are smiling proudly about the arrival of a new grandson Dennis, infant son of their daughter Norma and Jef- frey Lott of Oshawa. Registration for Minor Hockey for boys and girls will be held on Thurs- day October 2, from 7-9 p.m. at the arena. - At the weekly Tuesday evening card party, which recently has at- tracted a number of young players, the winners were: 1. Activity cards on sale by Rebecca Kahn Hi Rebels! The first month of school has just disappeared before our eyes and October is here. It pro- mises to be just as active as the first month. The athletes at P.P.H.S. were very busy last week travelling to other schools to compete. On Monday, Sept. 22, the girl's field hockey team travelled to Ajax for a double header. They played a hard-fought first game, but: unfor- tunately Dennis O'Connor scored a goal late in the second half to win 1-0. Their second game was played against the host team Ajax. These two teams were very well matched, resulting i n a 1-1 tie. Port's goal was scored by Laura Dobson. Our girl's basketball teams began their season last Monday. The seniors played an excellent game but unfortunately lost to a strong Central squad 58-34. Stephanie Smith led the Rebel's offence with 12 points. Our Junior team started their season on a successful note. They beat Central 41-22. The midget team played a very strong game, trouncing St. Stevens 52-25. This young team promises to have a successful season. Well done girls! Now to volleyball. Last Wed., the Junior boys had a very convincing win against Uxbridge, defeating them four games to none. Last Wed., the grad 13 English students and the Theatre Arts students travelled to Stratford for a little culture. They saw the Shakespearean production of Hamlet. It was an enjoyable day but . we won't mention how many people fell asleep during the play. Last Thursday, Sept. 25, everyone put on the brightest smile for picture day. The music department has been humming this week. Rehearsals have been going on almost every noon hour and every day after school. Elections for Senior Wind ex- ecutive took place last Tuesday evening. The executive of Leanne McKinzey, Rebecca Kahn, Laura Dobson, Melanie Lee and Vicki Ren- sink is led by Dave Hooper and Cory Gibson (prez and vice).
