Foul play not suspected Durham Region Police say foul play is not suspected in the death of a 48 year old Whitby man whose body was found last Wednesday in an isolated area west of Burketon and southeast of Port Perry. A Police spokesman said Monday morning, the body has been positively identified as that of Gor- don Earl n of Hunter Street, Whitby. He had been miss- ing since mid-July. The discovery was made last Wednesday by horseback riders who found the body in a four wheel drive vehicle which had been covered with tree branches. - Although Police suspected the identity of the body, positive confir- mation was not made until an ex- amination and tests were done at the Centre for Forensic Sciences in Toronto. Last week 30 piles were driven in- to the waterfront, the initial step in the completion of the concrete dock already in place along the shore in front of the Latcham Centre. The finished dock will not only add to the looks of the waterfront, it will also make it easier to launch boats from the marina. Marina operator John Mackey says construction crews will wait until the water level comes down before the dock is completed. Once that happens, all that re- 'mains is landscaping around the front of the new marina building, in- cluding the construction of a patio. "Right now the place is sitting in a pile of sand," he said. Mr. Mackey is a tenant in the marina, owned by the Township of be built on 30 piles Scugog, according to a lease signed last October. The Township is doing most of the renovations. Still, Mr. Mackey has heard numerous comments about the new marina, all of them favourable. "They like the look of it," he said. Clarification In a front page story in last veek's issue of the Star, a report urging local churches to beware of a woman using the name "Joan Lane,' has caused some confusion. The name used by the caller was deceptive as it had nothing to do with any Joan Lane living in Scug'og Township. The Star regrets any confusion caused by the report, but felt it was 'pertinent to use the pseudonym to warn residents of the canvassers false request for funds. 985-366 11 Scugog Street - Port Perry (Beside Rent & Save) --- OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK -- ntl pr, mil) R--" -
