This important popular service is made possible, or enhanced, by the library's participation in an area- wide public library agency known as Ontario Library Service - Trent, which is a provincially funded sup- port system for public libraries stretching from Pickering in the south, to Huntsville in the north, and from Tweed in the east to Coll- ingwood in the west. By means of a sophisticated com- puter system, and a van delivery system augumented by Priority Post, OLS - Trent provides the members of Scugog Memorial Public Library with access to some 10,000 films located in the public libraries across the area. These films are conveniently listed by ti- tle series and subject in the OLS - Trent Film Catalogue. A copy of this catalogue is available in the Scugog Memorial Public Library. We invite our public to use it, and to discover for themselves the wealth of films available, While the film ¢ 'lection in the Scugog Memorial Public Library is small (or non-existent) we are able, with the help of OLS - Trent, to pro- vide the citizens of our community with the films they need. Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Culture Trent service area are using the same collection! As an agency of the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Culture, OLS - Trent provides an impressive number of film-related services to their member libraries, which, in turn, enable us to give good service to our patrons. To mention only a few, there are previewing sessions that assist libraries to purchase those films best suited to their needs and to know the films that other libraries have purchased. Because the average film costs about $600, OLS - Trent helps libraries buy films on a cooperative basis so that tax- payers get the best possible value for dollars spent. In this connection we are pleased to report a special Ministry grant of $47,000 to enrich the audiovisual resources across the Trent area. In addition to preview- ing sessions, Trent conducts workshops to keep library staff up- to-date, and to make sure the films are properly maintained. Trent also has projectors and other pieces of audiovisual equipment which we may borrow for our users on a short- term basis. And lastly, Ontario Library Service - Trent maintains good communications with the Na- tional Film Board, and other film resources located across the pro- vince, all of which makes for a first- rate film service to the people of our community.
