RP ly Na EC The Malmont Farms Atom One's opened the 1986-87 season in the same style they used in exhibition play; winning! Friday, October 24, Lindsay came to Port to open the regular schedule. Port wasted nn time, as Chad Gar- vock tipped Mike Sluggett's point shot past the goaltender, on the power-play. Steve Desautels also assisted on the goal which came with Lindsay serving an unsport- smanlike conduct penalty assessed to their coach. Less than a minute later, Jeff An- drews scored an unassisted goal on a fine solo rush. Chad Garvock followed that with the winner, his se- cond of the night, when Steve Desautels' pass found him in the clear in front of the net. Adam Johnston then gave Port a 4-0 lead with a nice goal after taking a Sean McEnaney pass. After Lindsay had threatened a comeback by scoring a goal late in the first, Chad Kearns broke up a power-play inside the Port olue line and fed Duane Empringham, who roared in to score on a high, hard shot. Lindsay scored late in the se- cond; then Dave Pashley closed out the scoring early in the third, when he converted Chad Kearns pass from right wing into a top-corner goal. Duane Empr- ingham gave Malmont Farms a lit- tle breathing room with two goals early in the third. His first came after come hard work by Sean McEnaney and Dave Pashley and the second was the result of a nice pass from Mike Sluggett. Solid team play and strong goaltending from Andrew helped kill 4 third period penalties and ce- ment a 3-0 shut-out victory. The championships, held - October 21 at Dagmar Ski Club, featured com- petitors from 80 elementary schools across the Region. The Cartwright winners are, from left: Johnathon McCourt, Kirk Swain, Kingsley Malcolm, Michael Leeming, Shawn Lewerentz, Ryan Larmer and Scott Goble. Six students from Cartwright Central Public School qualified for the Provincial Cross Country Championship, at the Durham Championships held at Dagmar.
