Sportsland team showing promise The Sportsland Minor Bantam Hockey Team opened the 1986/87 season by playing four games in eight days. - The first of the league games was against Oshawa Bruins. With few pre-season games the boys played a strong game vith the final score being 5-1 for the Bruins. A good sign for the team was the ability to hold the Bruins scoreless in the third period. The next game was Sportslands home opener. They were to play Omemee who has a fine skating team. With the score being 2-1 for Omemee partly into the second period it looked: like the team may be able to get in the game. With 5 minutes left in the game Omemee scored three quick goals and that burst the balloon for the boys. The game ended up with a score of 11-1 for the visitors. The lone Sportsland goal came from Lee Phillips and was an unassisted ef- fort. The fine goaltending of Jamie Brown should not be overlooked in this game as the outcome could have been a lot worse. Game 3 of the week was the fine<t game to date for the Sportsland team heading in to Darlington Arena to play Bowmanville. The boys seemed a little downcast. Two minutes into the game Port Perry got a goal from Gerry Douma with the assist going to Cole Parry. LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO ADVERTISE YOUR BUSINESS? Look here! ...
