Room of the United Church when the congregation of St. John's Anglican and the United Churches -gathered together for an evening with students Susan Sheen, 2nd year Trinity and Doreen Van Camp 3rd year Emmanuel as they compare and discuss similarities and dif- ferences on the respective journeys to the Ordained Ministry. Many questions were answered and discussed by the two candidates. A social time concluded and a most delightful evening. | At Durham finals in Cross Coun- try Running, Cartwright Central was represented by a large number of winners. Six students were eligi- ble to proceed to the Provincial Meet- Kelly Phipps; Sean Leverentz; Mike Leeming; Ralph McQuaid; Jeremy Woodcock and Jody Logan. Eight boys captured the Durham Age 9 Banner- Sean Leverentz; Ryan Larmer; Scott Go- ble; Kirk Swain; Jonathan McCourt; Kingsley Malcolm; Jon Williamson and Mike Leeming. Con- gratulations on such a fine day. Students cracked the banks by Rebecca Kahn Last week the students of Port Perry High School cracked their piggy banks and broke into their penny collections for a very impor- tant cause. Monday, October 20, kicked off the start of the Foreign Child cam- paign. It ran a weeklong and a total of $3,351.44 was raised. This money goes towards the three foreign children that P.P.H.S. sponsors. Their names are: Charity Karimi Ndwiga (9 yrs. old) from Kenya, Africa, 14 yr. old Surekha Tukaram Tatkare from Bombay, India and 18 yr. old Elmo B. Gida from the Philippines. The money raised goes to help the entire community in which the child lives. On top of these three children we plan to sponsor another child from South America and if all goes well we may even sponsor a family. This year the campaign was run as a competition between homerooms and believe me the competition was fierce (right Mr. Arculus and Mr. London). The homeroom in each grade level which collected the highest amount of money will receive a pizza or ice cream party for their efforts. Congratulations are in order for Jennifer Philpott and Stephanie Smith, the 1986-87 Foreign Child representatives. They organized the entire campaign and put in many extra hours of hard work (mostly rolling pennies!!) Many thanks should also be given to the students of P.P.H.S. who dug deep into their hearts and their pockets WHITBY-OSHAWA HONDA 1110 Dundas St. East - Whitby, Oat.
