Nestleton-Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker ~ Spooks & Goblins Well ... Hallowe'en is over for another year. The weather was clear and crisp as hordes of goblins, witches, ghosts and all kinds of "scary" wee folk bombarded our door on Scugog Point Road on Fri- day night with "trick or treat." One delightful little angel and a big In- dian Chief were among the fear- some little callers. A great group of kids .... all polite with a thank you when they left .... they deserve a good pat on the back!! It is a joy to sce them having fun! Evening U.C.W. Meet Nine members attended the Oc- tober meeting held at the home of Betty Headon. During the business portion it was decided to purchase an artificial Christmas tree for the church. Also .... a donation will be given to the Sunday School to help provide class material. Regenia Walker led the worship with the theme, "Forgiveness." The Scripture reading was taken from Matthew 18 .... followed by singing the hymn "Others." Carol Mairs had a lively discussion with two thought-provoking readings, 'What do we owe our children?" and "How to do battle with grown-ups!" The evening closed with a delicious lunch served by hostess Betty Headon and Pres. Kay Not- man. Betty made a special "Ghost" cake which all thoroughly enjoyed. 40th Wedding Anniversary Celebrated A lovely "open house' was held in Nestleton Community Centre in Oc- tober when Barney & Dorothy McCabe of Nestleton, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. The McCabe's children and spouses, Judith and David Whitfield, Peter and Cathy McCabe, Janice and Martin O'Brien and Paul and Donalda McCabe "hosted" the event. Over one hundred relatives and friends, including their six grandchildren, were present to help make it a memorable occasion for Barney & Dorothy. Paul McCabe, acting as Master of Ceremonies, reviewed their 40 years together, and also read the letters of congratulations. Wedding pictures, old snapshots, beautiful decorations and music from the 1940 era, all helped to span the years. The delicious food was in abun- dance, and enjoyed by everyone. All in all, a great day for Barney & Dorothy & family. Guests were pre- sent from New York, Guelph, Thorold, Inglewood, Oakville, Toronto, Maynooth, Bobcaygeon and of course, neighbours and friends. Our. warmest wishes and congratulations to one great couple .... Barney & Dorothy McCabe! Family Reunion Held Lawrence and Gwendolyn. Malcolm, Nestleton, and daughter Gail of Port Perry attended the Brooks-Langmaid reunion held in Solina Hall on Sunday last at 1:00 p.m. Those present enjoyed good food and warm fellowship. The next reunion is the first Sunday in November 1988, with Bernice and Brooks Pearce in charge. Caesarea Card Night At the interesting card game held on Wednesday evening .... and spon- sored by the Caesarea Ladies' Aux- iliary -- the following folks hit the headlines. For first place .. a tie .. Gerry Taylor and Anne Harran each held 82. Second prize .. another tie .. with Fred Lawrence and Henry Visser each with 81. James Emerton- 46. A lovely lunch provid- ed by Doris Dean and Linda Hughes and the servers were Anne Harran and Gwen Robins. A great crowd .... and bring along a few friends this week for the fun evening! Happy Event Scott and Joanne Cawker' of Oshawa, are happy to announce the arrival of a lovely baby daughter, Elizabeth Bronwyn, born October 17, in Oshawa General Hospital. - Proud grandparents are Alan and Eleanor Cawker also of Oshawa. Blackstock & District (Cartwright) Lions Club The Lions Club have another achievement to their credit. A fine co-operative effort .... which was organized by Blair Martyn of the Blackstock Club assisted by other members .... and they have come up with a generous donations totalling $950 for Rick Hansen (the man who "has spent the last 19 months travell- ing through 34 different countries in a wheelchair to raise money for spinal cord research. Hansen 29, became a paraplegic at age 15. He has become a world class wheelchair athlete since then). He received the cheque from the Lions Club on Saturday, while in Oshawa at a fundraising event. Clubs which donated to this wor- thy cause were Bowmanville, Whit- by, North Oshawa, Central Oshawa and Blackstock where it all started! The Lions Club is a worldwide organization and we commend them once again for their dedication, en- thusiasm and generosity re- worthy endeavours! Blackstock United Church 1887-1986 With a good attendance, the Blackstock United Church had a significant anniversary service on November 2 .... celebrating '4 years in the present Sanctuary. T .ere was special music and Stephen Saywell .... the anniversary speaker, Minister of St. Stephen's United Church in Oshawa, was excellent in- deed! He spoke on "Living Today." Glad to be present .... it was enjoyable. Caesarea Community Church Dedication Service A Special Dedication Service was held in the Community Church- Caesarea, this past Sunday at 3 p.m. The church was filled to overflow- ing, extra seats being setup in the new Church Hall. The service was conducted by the Minister: Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford- the special speaker _ for this occasion was the Rev. Glenn Jackson, M.A.B.D. of the Port Perry United Church - he represented the Ministerial Associa- tion of Port Perry, being the Chair- man. Other members of the Ministerial Association were present- Rev. Bart VanEyk of the Christian Reformed Church, Port Perry, took the Responsive Reading, also the Rev. Hilsden of the Pentecostal Church read the First Lessons. The Rev. Jackson brought an inspiring address from 2 Chron. 7: 7 referring to the Dedica- tion of the Temple in Israel - the need to enlarge the building and the 'Altar. Rev. Jackson also dedicated the Chancel furniture - which had been donated to Caesarea by the Port Perry United Church - also three Memorial Plaques in memory of the late H.O. Tricker, Mrs. Marg Boynton and Mrs. Dora H. Crawford. The Sunshine Club Singers sang a special number "This is the Day" and a Poem - especially written for this occasion, by Mr. Frank Arney, entitled, "God Answers Prayers." This was read by Mr. Dan Pugh Jr. There was a Processional by Clergy and the Choir, down the aisle from the Sanctuary to the outer dgor of the New Church Hall - there they had a "Door Opening €eremony"' after which they entered the Hall and had the Dedication of the New Church Hall - this act of dedication was done by the Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford. The congregation then sang the Doxology and the Rev. Dale Davis of the Blackstock Charge pronounced the Benedici- tion, expressing it in a very beautiful way. At the conclusion of the service, everyone was invited to have refreshments. Pottery & Jewellery Open House Sale Edgar and Anne Emerson, Mothers are such a busy lot....... Scugog island Area News by Mrs. Earl Reader On Sun. morning at the Scugog United, everyone who had known Rev. Barry Pogue was pleased to welcome him back. Others who had not previously met him had heard of him thro' their children, who may have received his teaching at Durham College. Next Sun., we'll again welcome back Rev. Don. Tansley who gave us $0 much help three years ago. The Bulletin reminded us of future events and important meetings such as "Grace U.C.W., Wed., Nov. 5th at the home of Margaret Morrow. The same evening the "Head" U.CW. meet at the home of Mrs. Clara Dowson. Next Mon., Nov. 10th, Manchester and Scugog congregations are call- ed to a meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Scugog United regarding a call for a new minister for the Pastoral Charge. Then ten days later, Thurs. Nov. 20th the Official Board of the Scugog Pastoral Charge will meet at Scugog at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday afternoon Betty and Nelson Reader, Doreen and Don Ashbridge of Scugog Island, Lois and Harold Luke of Nestleton, Mary and Bob Dowson of Peterborough all drove to Kinmount to help Elsie and Alfred Angus celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary, the date of which is actually Nov. 17. As Elsie is the sister of the above named ladies and brother, Nelson Reader and grew up on the Island, we con- gratulate her and Angus and wish them many more happy years. Now that the Hallowe'en dance is over, Mothers of Guides & Brownies are working hard on their project the Bake and Craft Sale at the Hall for Nov. 22-11 to 2 p.m. Don't forget all donations will be appreciated. You are again reminded that an assistant volunteer treasurer is needed for the Coffee Hour held at Scugog United. Please call Madeline Cawker or Diane McKinzey. Christina Prentice is in Toronto today for her by-pass operation. Our prayers are with her. Nestleton, are holding an "Open House' on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 15 and 16, from 1 p.m. to8 p.m. in their Pottery Studio at their Nestleton farm home.
