Fun Night (Belt and Scarf) Win- Good week for Bantam A The Goreski Insulation Bantams had a good week by handily winning 2 games and tying a third. The week started off with the boys travelling to Stouffville and they came home with a 4-4 tie. Graham Sullivan led the way with 2 goals while Clair Cornish and Todd Taylor each picked up singles. Kevin Gibson, Derek Fitzgerald, Chris Legere, Paul Allen and Mike Sorley all pitched in with 1 assist. - On Wednesday night at home the boys had a slow start and didn't come alive until the 3rd period when they exploded for 5 goals. The scoring was spread around in this game as 7 players contributed for a total of 8 goals. Brian Appleby cashed in twice while Taylor, Fit- zgerald, Sorley, Sullivan, Cornish and Jarrett Harman added single markers. Cornish also took on the role of playmaker picking up 4 assists. Taylor pitched in with 2 setups while Legere, Sullivan, Sorley and Wylie added singles. Brad Bricknell kept Lindsay at bay for the first two periods and was on- ly beaten twice. Tweens tie 8-8 The Allen Aluminum Tweens met with a real challenge in Lindsay on Sunday. The game saw Lindsay leading 4-3 the first period but the a real team effort as When Lindsay went ahead with 54 seconds left in the game determina- tion brought Port Perry right back with the answering goal in 12 seconds ending the game in an 8-8 tie. This game was never in doubt from the opening face-off as the boys dominated in every aspect of the game. Harman got things started off with the first 2 goals before Cornish took over scoring 5 of the team's next 8 goals. He also added two assists as he totally dominated in this game and impressed everybody with his effort. Sullivan also added 2 goals for the Goreski squad while Sorley picked up a single marker. Paul Wylie pick- ed up 3 assists while Jason Weinhold and Legere each added 2. Sean Bradbury, Fitzgerald, Taylor, Ap- pleby, Sorley and Sullivan all add- ed singles. Also picking up an assist was goaltender Chris McConnell who now takes the point lead among the goalies. He also played well as always in net. Both goaltenders have played ex- tremely well this year as evidenced by their goals against average which is slightly over 3 per game. The offence is also hitting on all cylinders averaging over 5 per game. The next home game is Wednes- day night when they host some other LNHL team out of Oshawa. I would like to take this opportuni- ty to welcome everyone back to the second year of the Curling Corner. I would also like to welcome all new members to the Curling club. Curling is into it's third week with Men's League on Monday, Wednes- day and Thursday evenings, Business Girls Tuesday evenings, Ladies Monday and Tuesday after- noons, Mixed on Friday evenings and Juniors weekdays after school. This year marks the start of a new Competitive League which is played on Sundays from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Interest in this league has been ex- cellent and spectator turn-out has also been extremely good. The first competition of the year is the Junior Men being held at the Oshawa Curl- ing Club from Nov. 22 to 24. the Club Playdowns for the Labatt Tankard takes place at the club on December 13 and 14, while the Playdown for the Seagrams Mixed is on December 27 and 28. There was a good sized crowd on hand for the Opening Dance at the Curling Club on Saturday, November 8 with those in atten- dance having a most enjoyable evening. In other news, Ed Werenich along with Larry Inow, Neil Harrison, and Ian Hilton defeated John Base 8-5 to capture the $12,000 first prize of the Molson Classis at the Royal Cana- dian Curling Club in Toronto this past weekend. The Women's event was won by Anne Merklinger from Ottawa Rideau, which downed Carol Thompson of the Royals also by a score of 8-5. The Ottawa rink pick- ed up $5,000. Juveniles finally get into the win column The Port Perry Emiel's Juveniles hdd another rough week losing two but finally putting a one in the win column. The Juveniles lost two, one against Bewdley by a 3 to 1 score and the second against Baltimore by a 5-2 score, both games were on the road. The only win this week was against Omemee. This was the Juveniles first vic- tory in league play. The team final- ly stayed out of the penalty box and played civilized hockey and won by a 4-2 score. the points of this week went to Willie Edwards with 2 goals, 1 assist, Andy Systma 2 goals, Jim White 1 goal and 1 assist, Karl Durham § goal, Todd Reamsbottom 1 assist, Chris Cookman 1 goal, Joe Forder 1 assist and Lee Wilbur 2 assists. The goaltending of John Moore was once again superb saving his team numerous times. The team would like to thank midgets John Harman and Bill Eade for filling in on Tuesday against Omemee.
