PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 25, 1986 -- 9 New blood injected into local Lions Club During the past two months the membership of the Port Perry Lions Club has increased by four. The new members are: Jim Buckley, Janet- ville, Bill Perrin, Ashburn Dave . Wilson, Port Perry and Tom Wilson, Port Perry. Their previous ex- perience in community and service work with their special expertise bring an added strength to the Club. The Club has also grown in another way. It has become older. The Port Perry Lions Club was (born) chartered on November 22, 1937. Plans are being made for a special 50th Charter anniversary on Saturday, November 21, 1987. Associated with this Golden An- niversary year is a special function planned for September 1987 when a moonlight Cruise will sail out of Toronto on Lake Ontario under the sponsorship of the Port Perry Lions Club. Since this Cruise can accom- modate 250 persons there will be an opportunity for some non-members to participate. More details will be available later from any Lion. - District Governor Jim McDougall of Beaverton paid his official visit to the Club on November 17 when new members were installed by him. Governor McDougall stressed the importance of service to the com- munity and complimented the Club for work done through almost half a century. All Lions Clubs con- tribute to a wider service in their area, their country and interna- tionally. Governor McDougall ask- ed the Port Perry Club to assist other Lions on a world wide basis to help promote freedom from drug abuse and the prevention and cure of diabetes. Locally the Club is assisting in projects such as: The Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Dog Leaders for the Blind, Child car seats for own hospital, The ° Ringette program, Santa Claus Parade, Student Awards and the Scout Cub Pack: For the past year the Lions Club has assumed the management of the Manchester Hall and now use it ex- tensively as the "Lions Den' for regular dinner meetings and other functions. It is also available for rent to the public. Considerable renovations have made a big im- provement to the comfort and the appearance of the Hall. Included in the renovations are items such as: Complete insulation of all outside walls and ceiling, sanding and finishing of hardwood floors, moder- nizing and equipping the kitchen, improvement of heating equipment, provision for special serving areas. Guests at the meeting on November 17 were: Sandy Mitchell of Bermuda, Bob Murphy, Port Perry, Louise Calloway, Port Perry, and Joan Perrin of Ashburn. Winners of the "101 Draw" for November were: Robert Heron $50, 'Karen Parry $50, Ken Clark $25, Ken Murray $25 and Earl Whitaker $25.
