Port Juveniles dump Manvers for two wins The Port Perry Juveniles finally got on the winning track with two big wins against Manvers. The team in these two games finally stayed out of the penalty box and found the net, scoring 19 goals. The scores from both of these games were 9-3 in the first game and 10-3 in the second game. The points of the two games were given to Karl Durham 2 goals and - 3 assists, Jeff Wray 2 goals, 3 assists, Rob Tobin 2 goals, 1 assist, Chris Lane 1 goal, 2 assists, Willie Edwards 3 goals, 1 assist, Jim White 4 goals, 2 assists, Andy Systma 1 goal, 1 assist, Lee Wilbur 1 goal, 5 assists, Joe Forder 1 goal, 2 assists, Jeff Johnstone 2 goals, 4 assists, Todd Reamsbottom 4 assists, Chris Parliament 1 assist, Chris Cookman 1 goal, 3 assists, and Steve Solomon 1 goal. Lake Scugog took an early lead on a goal by Steve McDonald, Steve Kyte and Kevin McGrishen earning the assists, Marj Tripp came right back and evened the match on a nice low wrist shot from the stick of Ricky Olaisen, Graham Holt and Wade Sheedy picking up the assists. Lake Scugog went ahead in the dying minutes of the first period on a goal by Kevin Pearce, Toby Shewan and Andrew Jones gaining the assists. Lake Scugog's goalie Kyle Simms and Marj Tripp's James Patterson played to a draw in the second period both teams be- ing held scoreless. Kevin Pearce netted his second goal for Lake Scugog on a pass from Toby Shewan and Dale Bradbury. Marj Tripp hustled right back and Kent Jamieson found the target, assists going to Adam McTaggart and Darin Hope. Lake Scugog ended the scoring with a minute to go in the period on a shot from Karen Kett, Sean Ball and Kevin Pearce receiving assists. Final score Lake Scugog Lumber 4 - Marj Tripp Realty 2. Whitby Auto Wreckers 5 Port Perry Lions 2 Brandon Puckrin opened the scor- ing for Whitby Auto Wreckers on a pass from Ritchie Tripp and Alan Calder. Early in the second period Brandon Puckrin scored another on a pass from Neil Hancock and Mike Labanovich. The Port Perry Lions kept press- ing but were unable to beat Whitby Auto's Greg Rankin in goal. Chad Venning found the target on a good hard shot on a pass from Mike Labanovich and Neil Hancock. Port Perry Lions went on the score board on a blistering shot by Mike Staniland, Mike Tripp and Brad Strickert setting it up. Minutes later Chad Venning scored his se- cond of the game, Brandon Puckrin and Ritchie Tripp gaining the assists. Mike Staniland kept the Port Perry Lions in the game with his second goal, Sean Gawley and Ian McClelland earning the assists. Chad Venning scored his third of the day earning himself a hat trick on a pass from Mike Labanovich and Brandon Puckrin. Final score of this 'close game Whitby Auto Wreckers 5 - Port Perry Lions 2. Gord Lewis Motors 3 UAW 2 This was another well played game with both teams grinding it out until the final buzzer. UAW opened the scoring in the se- cond period on a goal by Jeremy Norton, assisted by Rob Romano . and Brad Lemieux. Gord Lewis Motors were trying hard and Paul Bycok fired one past Garf LeFort who played excellent goal for UAW assists going to Mark Cosway and Matt Coyne. Gord Lewis went ahead for the first time in the game with Paul Bycok scoring his second goal on a good pass from Louis Whitfield and Mark Cosway. It was end to end hockey for the next fifteen minutes with both teams having excellent opportunities but Danny Bycok in goal for Gord Lewis and Garf LeFort for UAW stopped numerous pucks we thought would be sure goals. UAW tied the game with three minutes left, Jeremy Norton scoring his second on a pass from Ryan Ridgeway and Rob McEachern. With the tension mounting and the 'spectators on their feet, John Hall for Gord Lewis broke the tie with 53 seconds remaining, Clay Scott and Mike Pugh receiving the assists. Gord Lewis Motors jumped into an early 3-0 lead over the Lions Club and then scored two goals late in the game to win 6-3. For Gord Lewis Motors, Louis Whitfield had a hot scoring hand as he clicked for a hat trick and just missed on a couple of other good chances. Paul Bycor added a pair of goals for Lewis and Darrel Slack rounded out the scoring. For the Lions Club, Mike Tripp had two goals and Sean Gawley 1dd- ed one in a losing cause. PEE WEE Larocque Electric 4 Emiel's Place 4 The Larocque and Emiel matchup proved to be a good display of well played positional hockey. The score indicates a very close checking game. Scott Foster for Emiel's opened the scoring with a pass off the stick of teammate Steven Shade. Larocque came back early in the second period with an excellent unassisted goal by Richard Stapleton. Two minutes later Emiel's jumped ahead again with their unassisted goal by Robert Vanuden. The next two goals were scored by Larocque with Jeff Labanovich scoring and Richard Stapleton assisting and Richard Stapleton unassisted once again. Emiel's scored the next two, put- ting them into the lead early in the third period. John Woodward pick- ed up the first with assists going to Jeff Kemp and Steven Shade, and the second was scored by Steven Shade with assists to Jeff Kemp and John Woodward. Larocque was able to tie the game up with 1:43 left in the third period. This much needed goal went to David Volman with a hard earned assist from Jeff Labanovich. Juniorsin a 5-5draw On Sunday, November 23 the Sportsland Juniors played an ex- citing game against Mariposa. After many practises, Port final- ly got their passing done right. Both Port and Mariposa battled it out to the last second of the game, making the final score 5-5 Scoring for Port were Michelle Beare, Kelly Calloway, Sherry Har- ris, Kim Caudle and Colleen Yorke all with one goal each. Assists went to Kerri Allen, Val White, Sherry Harris, Michelle Beare and Kelly Calloway with one each. Next game is Tuesday, December 2 at 8:00 p.m. against Ajax in Pickering Village. Curling Corner by Scott Howey Well done to the Junior Girls team of Sandra Liston, Lisa St. John, Car- rie Fielding and Wendy Brown for their fine finish in the Junior Girls Tankard held at the Beaverton Curl- ing Club on the weekend. The Port Perry rink won the B side of that event. In their final game, the girls lost a tough decision to a team from the Oshawa Golf Club actually falling short of forcing an extra end by a matter of an inch or so. Port Perry had a second team entered in this event, that being the team of Shari Haugen, Christine Beddome, Jill Parry, and Janet Reader. These girls also lost a squeaker in their second game which eliminated them from further ~ competition. Also taking place this past weekend, was the Junior Men's competition which was held at the Oshawa Curling Club. The Port Perry team of Dan Rankin, Gord Lee, Chris Watson, and John Rankin lost their first game to last year's winning team from Newmarket. In the second game, Port Perry needing two to tie in the final end, fell off short and were eliminated by the host club. 'Thank-you's are extended to coaches Reg Philip and Pam Byers and also the spectators that turned out to support these teams.
