The J.T. Pearce Auctioneers played a very exciting double match-up last weekend against Lindsay, Friday, November 28. The Novice No. 1 team played a solid fast skating game of end to end hockey with goaltenders Brandon Hammond and Scot Pretickto mak- ing many outstanding saves. Port opened the scoring on a beautiful breakaway shot by center- man Sandy Mark in the 1st period. Lindsay popped in 2 quick goals in the second period but Port applied pressure and midway through the 3rd period, Jeremy Geer blasted in the tying goal for Port. Defenseman Greg Thompson played an outstan- ding game along with protecting his net on defense Greg made some ter- rific rushes up the ice. The game ended 2-2. On Sunday Port faced off against Lindsay in their home arena. Port played short handed but the team played one of their best games of the season. All the boys were passing and making some spectacular plays. With Greg Thompson the on- ly defenseman at the game, for- wards Craig Laird and Billy Zaparanuik filled in and all three made some super plays. Nice work boys! Port once again opened the scor- ing early in the first period as Tim- Legion down 5-1 Port Perry Legion Pee Wee's hosted Lindsay on Friday, December 5. Stephen Laird is still out of the line-up due to injuries in last week's game, and Danny Slug- gett didn't see much action due to an injury at practice and a skate pro- blem. Hope both players will bounce back soon, as they are both key players on the team. The team was glad to see Greg Fitzgerald from the B team give us a hand on defense -- good game Greg. The Legion came out on the short end of the game with a 5-1 loss to Lindsay. Our only goal was in the first period when Mark Andrews found the mark unassisted. We were out-shot in the game 41-22. The team has a Monday night game in Stouffville and will play Port Hope on Friday, December 12th at Scugog Arena - see you there. my Fitzpatrick found himself all alone in front of the Lindsay net and rocketted it home with Kenton LeFort and Ryan Williams picking up the assists. Lindsay scored their lone goal in the second period but as the 3rd period was coming to a close the combination of Jay Tredway and Kenton LeFort's great effort paid off as Jay tricked it in the corner to win the game 2-1. It was just what the doctor ordered because Jay and Kenton played an excellent fast skating game and both had many chances but were robbed by the Lindsay goalie. Way to work boys! Jeremy Geer and Tommy Chambers both played solid hockey along the boards clearing the puck from Port Perry territory. Wednesday, December 3 saw Port face off at home against the Oshawa Black Hawks. This was a good game from start to finish as each player tried their hardest and it really paid off as Port defeated their opponents 7-0. Port had an early goal in the 1st period but did all the damage in the 3rd. Scoring for Port were Kenton LeFort 2 goals, 1 assist, Craig Laird 2 goals, Sandy Mark 1 goal, 1 assist, Jeremy Geer and Tommy Chambers 1 goal, Jay Tredway, Bil- Atom B's show spunk day, December 5, the inéridge Atoms hosted the Oshawa Major Atom Red Wings. From the opening face-off the Wings applied considerable pressure and despite several good saves by Steven Gilbert, counted four goals in the first six minutes. After this shaky start, Port settl- ed down and played the Wings fair- ly evenly for the next two periods. The Pineridge team could not beat the Oshawa goalie on their chances, however, while the Red Wings capitalized on their opportunities to score two goals in each of the last two periods and take the game 8-0. Despite the score, there were positive signs in Port's perfor- mance. Since their 10-2 loss to Millbrook a couple of weeks ago, the players have been working hard at improving some individual skills good quality opponents. These skills were much improved in the Oshawa game. Most of the goals scored by the Red Wings were the result of two tactical flaws in the team's game plan. The Pineridge team travelled to Oshawa for the return match against the Red Wings on Sunday afternoon. Prior to the game, the team discussed the adjustments to their game plan that would be necessary against the Wings. Port then took to the ice and showing the kind of heads-up, thinking hockey of - which they are capable, executed nearly flawlessly the revised game plan. Add to this, good effort, deter- mination, and excellent goaltending by Steven Stiles and the result is a 'well played, entertaining game that remained scoreless for two periods. that were causing problems against The Red Wings scored early in the SCUGOG MEN'S HOCKEY STANDINGS Team W L T Gf Ga Pts Larocque 8 4 0 50 38 16 J&D 7 3 2 38 24 16 Crandell's 6 5 1 39 35 13 Smiths 5 5 2 32 30 12 Compton 5 6 1 28 37 1 B.J.'s 5 6 1 39 40 11 Sportsland 5 7 0 34 38 10 Galley 3 8 1 31 45 7 BROOMBALL STATS Team W L T GI GA Pm Pts Goreski's Insulation 11 0 0 83 12 55 22 Utica Farm Equipment 8 3 0 4 17 130 16 Blackstock Merchants 7 4 0 30 20 74 14 Emmerson's Insurance 3 8 0 23 36 108 6 Oddfellows 2 8 1 11 63 71 5 B & L Doughnuts 1 9 1 8 50 93 3 Team G A P Pt Dave Dickson- Goreski's 20 5 6 25 Mark Lee- Goreski's 15 7 8 22 Tom Powell- Goreski's 8 12 12 20 Bart Wager- Goreski's 9 6 4 15 Ed Sexton- Goreski's 6 8 2 14 Murray Down- Utica 8 5 18 13 Wayne McGuigan- Blackstock 8 3 4 1 Bruce Woodrow- Goreski's 5 6 0 11 Bill Down- Utica 4 7 16 11 "third period and then added two more goals by the half-way mark of the third period to open up a 3-0 lead. The Pineridge players would not quit, however, and with five minutes left in the game, Billy Sandiford scored, assisted by Todd Smart and Misty Andrews to narrow the Oshawa lead to just two goals. Port had several good scoring chances but could not beat the Red Wing netminder. Then, possibly due to fatique, the Pineridge team which was missing three players for this game, suffered a lapse in which Oshawa scored three goals in a 73 second span late in the game to clinch the victory 6-1. - The effort, discipline, and im- provement shown by the Pineridge team against a very good Oshawa Major Atom team is good reason for the players to be optimistic as the team heads into the latter part of the season. The Pineridge Atoms travel to Omemee on Tuesday, participate in a tournament at Bobcaygeon on December 12-14, and to Port Perry for the final home game before Christmas, against Manvers on Saturday, December 20 at 7:30. Port didn't fare quite as well Fri- day as they were defeated by Cobourg 5-1. Try as they might Port just couldn't hold down the fast skating Cobourg team. Despite the score, goaltenders Brandon Ham- mond and Scot Prechitko made countless saves as Cobourg really put them to the test with their hard shots. Good game boys! The J.T.
