SENIOR CITIZENS ... 10% DISCOUNT (Monday to Friday) 24,000 pounds of fruit A record y Twenty-four thousand pounds of fruit! That's how much oranges, . grapefruits and clementines were rolled off a truck from Florida for the eighth annual citrus fruit fun- draising campaign for P.P.H.S. Music Department. : "It's was a record year!' pro- claimed music teacher Charles White as the campaign drew to a close Friday morning. Mr. White credited the success of the sale to the quality of the fruit, saying 'It's been really good this year. And the addition of the clementines has really helped." Helped may be an understate- ment. Thirty percent of the fruit sold this year were Clementines and Mr. White expects that figure to double next year. The campaign is run by the entire Music Department and has been us- ed in the past to pay for bussing and "extras" or special items such as an electric piano, and sound systems. This year, Mr. White says, the funds raised will be put towards a down payment on a set of tympani drums, worth about $5500. Thanks to the success of the citrus campaign, $3,800 was realized, enough, Mr. White says, for a "good down payment." Without the fundraising cam- paigns, buying such equipment isn't out of the question but is more difficult. "It would sure take a good chunk from the budget," Mr. White pointed out. "There wouldn't be room for anything else." Bh Music students had three weeks to sell orders for the fruit, which was picked up by the buyers on Friday. \ \ Th : nN AREA This 30" wide linen closet contains 4 deep wire ventilated shelves SA.
