What better way to top off an afternoon of carolling, Santa and hot cider than a good old fashioned hayride through the snow. It was a real family affair last Sunday as local residents en- joyed Group '74's Olde Tyme Christmas. After the festivities inside Brooklin Community Cen- tre were over, it was every man for himself as enjoyable. young and old alike vied for a spot on the wagons, which for the thirteenth year in a row have been provided courtesy of Brooklin and District Kinsmen. Even Mother Nature co-operated, blessing the event with fair weather and just enough snow to make the day even more Durham grads get jobs A record number of Durham Col- lege's 1986 graduates have obtained employment. Approximately 96.5 per cent of Group '74 plan courses Group '74 has been involved in community efforts for the past 12 years, and 1987 will be no exception. The ladies of the group are. already making plans to offer some delightful craft courses in the new year to include lessons in hair pin lace, landscaping, advanced cake decorating, rug hooking, crocheting, and for those who are artistically in- clined, watercolor painting. "They will be holding an open house on Thursday, January 8 where you will be able to get all the up-to-date information, but in the meanwhile, thére are registration forms, complete with a full list of the courses being considered at Meadowcrest Public School, the library and Brooklin Flour Mill. Whitby 668-6828 ~ this year's graduates are employed and 87.3 per cent of these are work- ing in positions related to their course of study at Durham. This is a 4 per cent increase over last year's placement in related employment. The Health Sciences Faculty en- joyed the highest placement rates with 99 per cent of graduates employed. Applied Arts & Technology tied for second place with 96 per cent placement, and the Business Faculty had a 95 per cent placement rate. Herb Kirkconnell, Director of Stu- dent Affairs commends Sheila Bell, placement officer and her staff on "a job well done. Mr. Kirkconnell pointed out that 47 per cent of the jobs were processed through the Placement Office. In all over 1900 job orders were placed. The officers also teach effective job search techniques to all graduating students. These students do an ex- cellent job of "marketing" themselves to prospective employers. Mel Garland, Durham College President, is pleased with the place- ment results. He feels that this record reflects the proven - theoretical and practical knowledge training methods employed by the College. Ladies' Take-A-Break is a week- MACKEY & BAILEY BARRISTERS & SOLICITORS ly two-hour where parents exercise, then enjoy coffee, a speaker or a craft-making session, while children are cared for by their experienced baby-sitters. Flower Arranging is again offered in two categories as well as Sewing and Calligraphy. New additions to choose from in- clude Wonderful Woolies (Knitting at its best). Computers For Mom and Dad where the basics are taught at an introductory level. Also featured is Hot Cakes, cake decorating made easy! CPR will also be offered in February. (cardio pulmonary resuscitation). Want to keep fit? They feature Dance Aerobics, Slim And Trim For Her And Him, Yoga, Karate, a Men's Basketball League and a Men's Floor Hockey League. Positive Action is for those who are 25 pounds overweight or more, in which the exercises are designed to prevent discomfort, while leading to agility. This is a good course for 'post natal' ladies and older adults. For the entire family to enjoy. The Y offers Family Fit, an exercise program set to music 'with a warm- up, cardiovascular work and a cool- down.
