Council want traffic stud - (From page 1) MTC will be conducting more traf- fic counts in that area this coming summer and approval for signals might be given to the owners of the "plaza, if they pay for the in- stallation costs of about $100,000. There are two main areas of concern over the traffic problems along that stretch of Highway 7A. The first is the fact that Carnegie Street does not align with Water Street, which has signals at the present. The second problem is the entrance to the plaza. Drivers trying to make a left turn from the plaza face problems with through traffic both east and westbound on the highway. These problems are further compounded by the fact there are several entrances into commercial buildings along the north side of the highway. The problems are already serious and they will get worse with more development slated for along that stretch of highway. There are plans for a 15,000 @e Hearing c Aid Centre of Port Perry Or. E. Mueller's Office - 24 Water St. S., Plaza, Port Perry, Ontario LOB 1NO THIEN TRE ER TSS NR N----,---- square foot commercial bulding on the south side of the highway, just west of the plaza. There is a 76 unit co-op housing project just west of the plaza slated to get started this month. Traffic from the housing project will use Carnegie Street to get onto Highway 7A. On the north side of the highway, preliminary plans have been presented to council for a 90 unit condominium and a large com- merce plaza of some 50,000 square feet where the Bayshore Take-out and the car wash building are located. While they talked about the problems for well over an hour Monday afternoon, councillors could come up with no solutions, other than to suggest that a professional traffic flow expert should study the issue and come up with a report. Councillors also felt that if the proposed development on the north side of the highway get off the ground, the main entrance should line up with the existing en- trance to the plaza on the south side and this entrance should be Dennis J. Councillors also agreed that any further commercial development - on the north side of the highway should have access onto Water Street by a road alongside Cran- dell's Restaurant. There have been numerous minor accidents along that stretch of Highway 7A over the past couple of years and on busy weekends, the traffic problems have forced the plaza merchants to hire special duty police officers to direct traffic so that shoppers can safely exit and enter the plaza parking lot. "There has to be a solution to these (traffic) problems," said councillor Christie. "And we have to find the solutions now. Trying to find one a year from now may be too late," she stated. Scott found the pic- colo after the Santa Claus Parade and turned it in at R.H. Cornish School. The instrument eventually wound up at PPHS, but nobody seemed to know who it belonged to. Then last week, Scott's mother saw an ad in the Port Perry Star about the lost piccolo and the wheels were put in motion to return it to the owner. The Newmarket teenager was delighted to get the silver piccolo back as it would have cost more than $400 to replace it. Thanks to the honesty of Scott Foster. =) y 25% OFF continues on ...
