THOMAS CARPENTRY Stan, Dorothy Thomas and family Nursing home news by Wendy Clark Saturday, December 6th, we held - our Annual Xmas Bazaar which was extremely successful. Christmas pudding that was made by the residents was served in the Tea Rooin and many people commented how delicious it was. The winners of the Nursing Home Draw were Quilt: Julie Charles (Toronto), Ceramic Music Box: Vicki Nadin (Prince Albert), and a Cream and Sugar Set: Gayle Archer (Janetville). The door prize winners were Afghan: Lori Flynn (Whitby) and the Doll: David Malcolm (Blackstock). All of the residents would like to thank the vendors, volunteers and to anyone else who helped or made a donation to the Bazaar. Just a note that due to the keen in- terest in ceramics that the items they make will now be for sale continually. Monday (8th), the day was spent trimming trees. Being Jean Michauds' birthday her family brought in a delicious birthday cake for Jean to share with her friends over a nice cup of tea. Late after- noon a choir by the name of "The Exceptionals" came in to entertain us with some delightful songs. Then in the evening a coffee hour was held. Many of the residents prepared their Christmas lists at this time. Due to bad weather on Tuesday, the shopping trip to the Oshawa Cen- tre was cancelled. Instead we held a Bingo in the afternoon and then did some decorating. It may be of in- terest to you to know that we have officially entered the Christmas Light Contest that is being spon- sored by the Port Perry Star. Wednesday afternoon some members of the Salvation Army came to entertain us. They lead a terrific melody of Christmas Carols. We all then received a goody bag. During the evening 28 residents attended the Rotary Club Dinner. They served us a lovely turkey din- ner with all the trimmings. After filling our tummys we sat back and relaxed and enjoyed the entertainment. Thursday the residents played hostesses to a Baby Shower for Barb Wright (a staff member). Barb received many nice gifts from the residents and the staff. We're sure that her new bundle of joy will en- joy all of the gifts. Friday (12), 37 residents attend- ed the UCW Christmas Concert in the diningroom. These people came from Seagrave and brought us a lot of homemade goodies and small gifts. We all thoroughly enjoyed the singing, the harmonica playing and the Christmas Fairy Tale. Saturday afternoon a ceramic class was held. Everyone is becom- ing quite talented in this craft. MERRY CHRISTMAS TAYLOR'S GULF SERVICE CENTRE PORT PERRY - 985-3655 Christmas bazaar success School Inter Christian Choir came and sang some beautiful Christmas carols. The residents then stayed around and took part in our monthly resident Council Meeting. The main issue at the meeting was an evalua- tion of the bazaar. They have decid- ed that they don't want to change a thing. The ladies have also sug- gested to have a shelf built in the Residents Kitchen area for storing baking items. We had an over- whelming enthusiasm for the organization of a supper club. We are going to start to order out din- ner once a month. After dinner hour the Port Perry Baptist Church came in to visit us. Tuesday we loaded up some cars and headed out to the Oshawa Shop- ping Centre for a day of Christmas Shopping. Everyone had a good time and came home with lots of parcels for family and friends. We stopped for a delicious lunch at Tats. Wednesday (17), instead of exer- : cises the Greenbank Public School Choir came in to sing to us. Throughout the afternoon the ladies : | | | i had their nails done at the manicure § session. On Thursday, Dec. 18th we held | our annual Christmas Party. Ap- proximately 200 people were in at- | tendance. Entertainment was pro- |i vided by a singing group called § Touch of Class.
