Special thanks to the contributors of news items throughout the year. We do indeed live in an age of modern transportation. Gordon Paisley spend last weekend in Por- tage La Prairie, Manitoba visiting his son Craig, who is enjoying very much his job as television journalist there. Craig will be spending a weeks's vacation in Blackstock at Christmas time. Bryan and Judy Mountjoy and girls are spending the Christmas holidays with his mother, Mrs. Ivan Mountjoy of Blackstock and are also visiting other relatives in the area. Many of the local young people en- joyed a Christmas dance at the Ops Community Centre sponsored by the Victoria Junior Farmers. On Friday evening the local Pathfinders and Rangers along with their leaders enjoyed a Chinese din- ner at Mrs. Lee's home and then went carolling throughout Blackstock's streets spreading the Christmas spirit. Afterwards, they went to Mrs. Turner's for dessert and hot chocolate. Thank you leaders for letting us use your home. The Guides and their leaders had enjoyed a Progressive dinner par- ty last Monday evening. Belated congratulations to Durham East Junior Farmers judg- ing team consisting of Craig - Larmer; Fred Slemon and Wayne Yellowlees who placed first in the provincial competition at the Royal Winter Fair. All curling leagues will be starting the second schedule of play im- mediately in the new year. Any one wishing to join any of the three leagues would be very welcome by calling Joyce Kelly at 986-4257 and your name will be referred to the proper place. - During the Christmas season, there will be three curling events held: Men's Bonspiel on Dec. 29th; Women's Dec. 30th and Mixed on Jan. 3rd. Sign-up sheets with all the details are posted at the arena in Blackstock. Sign up now. Sympathy is extended to Jean and Bruce Mountjoy and family on the passing of Jean's sister last week. After sing- ing the W.1. Grace, we sat down to a lovely pot-luck dinner with tables decorated for Christmas. We were happy to have visitors and 4-H leaders. Meeting opened with W.I1. Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. Flora Samells gave a humourous reading and we sang carols. Dora Martyn, dressed appropriately gave us a recitation of '"The Widder Green," which gave us all a good laugh. The ability to praise people was read by Edith McLaughlin and gave us some food for thought. We had our 'Mystery Sister" gift exchange. Everyone received a gift and by the smiles shown, we were all quite happy. The Roll Call was a donation to the Salvation Army in Bowmanville. Minutes were read and approved and the secretary was appointed to purchase a new book for her minutes. Correspondence was read. Edith McLaughlin attended the 84th Con- vention. She told of her two days which she spent a the Royal York Hotel in Toronto and ended her talk with a happy smile. A smile is warmer than Hydro and less expensive. We will have our next meeting in the New Year at the Town Hall on Jan. 7th, 1987. The meeting closed with "0 Canada." -- Helen Bradburn Public Relations Officer Members of the Schryburt fami- ly of Michigan -- former residents of this area visited friends over the weekend. The weekly card party on Tues- day had seven tables. Winners this week were: 1. Ann Taylor; 2. Clarence Masters; 3. Richard Manns; 4. Meta Swain; 5. Ethel Golde; 6. Mary Poots and Low- Gladys Potts. The draw winners were: 1. Leonard Cain; 2. Meta Swain; 3. Myrtle Gimblett. An excellent crowd of parents, relatives and friends gathered in the Cartwright Central Public School Gymnasium on Wed. night to enjoy an evening of song and music presented by the students of C.C.P.S. The very capable Christie Corden served as Master of Cereinonies for the evening. The programme began with the Senior Choir singing a selection of popular songs accompanied by Mr. Friede on guitar, Mrs. Corden on piano, and Mr. Thompson on drums. Following this choir Mrs. Jeffrey's Grade 3 class performed "A Merry Christmas ABC" to the delight of Dreams Sincere hopes that our appreciate your support throughout the year. Clogging was next on the agenda with Tracey Doyle and Leanne Goslin showing their exper- tise in this field. Carla Davis, Nicole Leach and Brandie Waldriff played "Carol for Christmas' as a wood- wind trio with two clarinets and a flute. Next Janine Prosser and Tanya McLean performed a flute duet of "Yuletide." Mrs. Hopkin's Grade 2 class sang 'I Want A Brand New Brother" which drew several titters from the audience. A group of Grade 2 and 3 students led by Mrs. Argue and Miss Morton put on the skit "A Chipmunk Christmas" for all to enjoy. Follow- ing this the Junior Choir sang three selections accompanied by Mrs. Corden. The music continued with Mrs. Hoyle and Mrs. Butt leading the recorder group and Mrs, Jeffrey conducting the Concert Band in traditional Christmas tunes. Lorrie Swain, Julie Corden and Tracey Hoskin performed "Dona Nobis 'Pacem" as a woodwind trio follow- ed by the Concert's Band 'Joy To The World." The evening ended on a festive note with the Primary Choir singing three enjoyable songs. KEN RANKIN PLUMBING This evening of song was enjoyed by all who attended and could have been responsible for putting the spirit of Christmas in someone's heart. We are pleased to report that Mrs. Rose Creighton and Bill Johnston are both home again following stays in Port Perry Hospital. Mr. E.R. Trewin is now a resident of the Port Perry Nursing Home after a lengthy stay in Port Perry Hospital. Floor Hockey Results: both Blackstock teams played a team from Port Perry YMCA league. The Port Perry team was a combination of both Port Perry teams due to the lack of players on each team. Game 1 with Port Perry 9 -- Blackstock Maroon 7 with the Blackstock scorers- Brendon Agnew 4; Chris Chorostecki, Kendall Chorostecki and Tim Masterson each 1. In the se- cond game Port Perry 8 -- Blackstock Black 7. Blackstock scorers were Mike Hepburn 2; Jay Buma 2; Chris Bryant, Jason Cliff and Mar'in Stubbs each 1. The *'sud- den death' overtime goal was scored by Kevin Pearce. Floor hockey resumes January 13. May the warm grace your holiday with health and happiness.
