Winter programs at the YMCA The Durham Region Family YM- CA is now accepting registrations for the 1987 Winter program season. A variety of new and exciting pro- grams for all ages are being introduced. For the pre-schooler, we are again offering Kindergym and Creative Crafts as well as adding two new programmes namely Music For Fun and Musical Movement. Music For Fun will run on Friday after- noons and introduce the child to the basics of music through listening, singing, games and rhythmic in- struments. This course is useful as a beginner's program to music lessons. Musical Movement is a Creative dance program being of- fered on Monday afternoons at the Anglican Church. . School-age children have a varie- ty of programmes from which to choose a new winter activity. Gym- nastics, floor hockey, and judo are being offered again as well as the popular babysitting training course. A couple of new programmes are Shake, Rattle and Roll which is a dancersize, aerobics workout for girls ages 9 and up; and a new craft club session is starting on Saturday mornings. For Blackstock residents, the gymnastics and Kindergym programmes will con- tinue on Thursday evenings, and babysitting training will be offered on Mondays after school. Teens will be interested in the Leaders-in-Training program. Par- ticipants will meet every Wednes- day evening for a training session and then participate with 'Y' in- structors to- gain practical ex- perience. Graduates of this program can go on to be 'Y' instructors, playground leaders or camp counsellors. We are also organizing a Teen Badminton Club to meet on Thursday evenings for an hour of friendly competition and socializing. Ladies may be interested in our Take-a-Break program. This mid- week program gives you a chance to exercise, socialize and make new friends while your children are entertained by the 'Y' babysitters. A ladies fitness class will run on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 at Cartwright Public School. We are also offering the St. John's Am- bulance Basic First Aid class which is a nationally recognized certificate course. If you haven't. received your Winter brochure or would like more information on these or other pro- grammes, please call the YMCA at 985-2824.
