Being a driver of an '18 Wheeler' (tractor-trailer) that has to make deliveries to towns such as Port Perry, Cobourg, Port Hope, etc., I object to being classified as a '"Bonehead" or a "Inconsiderate Jerk." Do you have any idea how difficult it is to maneuver a vehicle over 60' long, weighing sometimes over 50,000 Ibs., down a busy street such as Queen St. in Port Perry. Most retailers do not have a loading dock for a truck of this size and we are forced to unload from the street. As for going down a side street, most residential streets, heavy trucks are prohibited, hydro and telephone wires are too low for clearance, corners too tight to make turns. As for the smaller courier trucks, yes, they can go on side streets or to the back of retail outlets, so please don't make statements grouping all truck drivers into 1 basket. Transport drivers sometimes have to double park, it's hard to wait for 7 to 8 cars to pull away from parking at curbs all at one time so we can unload freight at customer' Ss stores. While I'm getting this off my - chest, I would like to ask the drivers of '4 wheelers" (cars) to be a little more considerate to the trucks on the road. We have to swing wide to make a right turn, I don't know how many times I have signaled, check- ed mirrors, and half way through my turn, found a car sneaking up on the right side between the trailer and curb, or try backing in off the roadway, after checking the way is clear by getting out of the cab and walking back to visually see - emergency flasher going - get back in tractor and some car will pull right up behind you, oblivious. to what you are doing or they try to go through as you are backing in. If 1 car makes it through the next 1 will try it too and there's the '"'Bonehead" '"'Jerk" truck driver blocking traffic again. These trucks don't stop on a dime as some people seem to think. On the highway we need room from the vehicle ahead of us but, a car will pass, do a quick lane change in front of us and our safety margin is gone or worse if traffic is slowing down we have no margin at all. It's call- «d an Accident, 50,000 Ibs. and into the back of 2000 Ib. car and it's the truck drivers fault for following too close, even if 2 seconds ago there CHESTERFIELD SUITES - LOVE SEATS SECTIONALS - MATTRESSES A Large Selection LESS THAN 2 4 1/2 PRICE! Think about this the next time you pass a truck on the 401 in rush hour and jump in front of him because there is space in his lane between the truck and the next vehicle. That space is there for a reason. I know not all truck drivers drive this way. I see them 2' off the rear bumper of a car or truck on the 401 or other roadways, weaving in and out passing cars and well over the Planning a New Year's Eve Party? We have ...
