5 Nestleton- Caesarea News - by Mabel Cawker Time To Take Inv _ As we commence 1987 our thoughts drift back to the events and people that helped shape our lives over the past year. It was a year of delight for some, sorrow for many, and frustrated hopes and despair, as 'they tried to cope with the problems of life. The texture of our lives shifted and changed with the dwindling dollar and the growing cost of living, unemployment, labour disputes and violence. Unpleasant as are all these condi- tions, are we mindful of our bless- ings. Let us be thankful that we live " Sunday, in a free country, with freedom of speech, religion and. education. Birthday Celebrated Our very best wishes to lan Emer- son of Newfoundland, son of Edgar and Anne Emerson of Nestleton, who celebrated his 40th birthday on December 28th; with a "host" of relatives ... the immediate family on hand to wish him the best, A lovely buffet supper with all the trimmings was enjoyed ... and the event was held at the Emerson family farm home, Nestleton. What a nice occasion! Edgar and Anne Emerson celebrated their 42nd wed- / ( ding anniversary on December 27th . 80 .. warmest congratulations are in order for them as well! What a meaningful day! Christmas News Bill and Kay Ingram, Nestleton, after cooking the Christmas dinner, . went to daughter Linda and Dave MacInnis, Matthew, Daniel and Joshua of Pickering for the festive occasion. All the family were pre- sent. Bill and Kay celebrated New Year's Eve with son Glenn and Anne Ingram and family of Nestleton. Kay's father Mr. Wm. Dobbie who . is 85 years old and a resident of the Senior Citizen's apartment in Port Perry, took a plane to Scotland for New Year's Eve. He will be back on Jan. 13th. Apparently several of the regular players must have had too much Christmas and New Year ac- tivities and decided they would pass this one up. Winners of prizes were Ladies 1st Rita Storie, 2nd Verna Smith'and Low was Mrs. K. Crosier. Mens 1st'was Tom Ogden, 2nd was Bill Brown or was it -Bruce Houghland (they took turns playing) and Low was Grant Bright. Freeze- out winners were Mildred Thomp- son and Bruce Bright 1st with Bruce Houghland and Laurrena Bright se- cond. There will bé another euchre in two weeks. The Hall Board held a very suc- cessful New Year's Eve dance and regret that they were not able to ac- commodate all who wanted tickets. George and Ella Bowers of Nestleton and son Earl, had a festive Christmas with all the famil home at various times, during fle holiday season. Nice to have daughter Dorothy and husband Ray Carson of Huntsville home for a ten day period. George and Ella and Ray and Dorothy were Christmas Eve guests with son Ralph and wife Cecile Bowers of Tyrone.. The following week ... Bea and Harry Lynch of Lindsay visited with the G. Fred and Mabel Daves "hosted" a get together for New Years ... for 'the family at their home Nestleton United Church On a beautiful, sunny, winter mor- ning, the first service for the New Year, Jan. 4th at 11:15 a.m. Richard and Janice MacKenzie, Claire and Leslie were the friendly greeters at the door. With a very good: con- gregation in attendance, Rev. Dale Davis conducted the service ... with Carol Mairs ... the pianist. Scripture was taken from Deuteronomy 8: 1-10 & Matthew 25: 31-46, and the minister chose as his theme 'We Have Something To Share," ... a fine message for the New Year. The Sun- day School children enjoyed the minister's story 'before 'going to classes. Service closed with hymn, "New Beginnings." Benediction and the Three Fold Amen. District Executive Meet A meeting of Ontario South Distrieig, Women's Institute Ex- ecutive met on Dec. 30th at 1:30 p.m. at the lovely apartment of Jean Car- nochan in Port Perry. A small atten- dance due to many unforseen cir- cumstances! After a brief discus- sion re- various business items by a cup of tea was served by the hostess and a delightful visit followed.
