Councillors approved the request on January 26, and if all goes accor- ding to.Mr. Buchanan's plan, the cemetery work will commence in May or June. For councillors, the project means the restoration of what has become a neglected cemetery, overgrown with broken stones and fences that need mending. For students, the project will be an insightful look at the local history of the area and its families, as well . as a chance to get out of the - classroom, get some fresh air, and put their muscles to work. "Many of the students come from old families in the area, and the pro- ject will have significant historical value for them," Mr. Buchanan said. 'Hopefully, they'll come out of this with a lot more knowledge." Mr. Buchanan is hoping to teach a variety of disciplines through the cemetery project. By measuring graves, he's going to be stressing math. By mapping the area, he'll be teaching geography, and through the study of the stones themselves, from names to verses to ornamentation, the emphasis will be on history. © = Not to mention phys ed, which the 30 students will get their fair share of 'when they begin re-building 1987 BOWL FOR MILLIONS February 7th to 14th Celebrity Day - Sat., Feb. 149th, 3-5 P.M.
