a TUT RA RE WORE ESR SAR ERNE Audrey Geer was recently honoured with a surprise party celebrating her 30 years working for Brock's Department Store. She started working part- -time because Art Brock (right) was plan- ning a vacation and she' s been there ever since. See story for details. It's not often someone stays in the same job for 30 years, and it's even more rare in the retail business where people tend to come and go almost as fast as the customers. Audrey Geer is an exception. Mrs. Geer has worked part-time at Brock's Department Store on Queen Street for the past 30 years, and for her efforts she was honoured recently by her fellow staff membhere at a surnrise nartuv Air bands from all over region square off Port Perry High School will be playing host to a wide range of quasi celebrities April 10th when it presents the first ever Durham Region Air Band Finals. Its the first time a school has ever hosted a Durham-wide air band competition, although many schools throughout the Region have produc- ed in-school events. Organizers Kristy Armour and Leigh-Ann Goreski will be allowing entries from 10 schools to compete all of which will be up against the formidable competition of two air bands from Port Perry, Run DMC and Billy Idol. Kristy and Leigh-Ann are hoping to make the competition a gala event with radio station disc jockeys as judges, and a dance following. Reunion dance set to go Graduates of Port Perry High School are being encouraged to buy their tickets now if they plan on at- tending the school's reunion dance on June 27th. The Kinsmen Club of Port Perry is running the dance at the Scugog Memorial Arena, starting at 8:30 ~ p.m. and featuring the sixties sound of Lowdown, a Canadian group from . the London area. Her boss, Claudette Brock, said, "We wouldn't know what to do without her," and many people at the store feel the same. The Port Perry resident was hired 30 years ago to work part-time while Mr. and Mrs. Brock senior vacation- . ed in the sunny south. She never dreamed she'd still be in the sare job 30 years later, although working at Brock's is sort of a tradition in Mrs. Geer's family. Her mother, Ef- * fie Ploughman, also worked behind the cash register. "When I started, I thought I'd be ° here for a month," she recalls with a smile. Now, however, she wouldn't trade her job for anything and.plans to stay a while longer. "I just enjoy it," she said. "It's a bit like a family, and I've enjoyed every minute of it." 2 UNITED CHURCH Rev. Glenn C. Jackson, M.A., B.D.
