February 17, 1987 -- 11 A Prince Albert couple has done what some consider impossible -- 1I- ean and Merv Pugh hav € won one of 10 grand prizes in a ma jor Canadian sweepstakes Even the Pugh's can't believe their luck. Until they received of- ficial confirmation they had won $2,500 to be used for a trip anywhere in the world, they suspected nobody ever won nationaily advertised draws. But win they did, in the Sears Catalogue Club draw which started in June 1986. Anvone with a vahd Sears account in good standing was eligible to enter and some 400,000 people across Canada did just that Only 10 grand prizes were drawn, however, and the Pugh's still can't believe they were awarded one of them. The couple was notified a month ago over the telephone, but at the time, they "'thought it was a hoax." Port Perry Sears manager Terry McChurg, who also happens to be a long-time acquaintance of the Pugh's, agreed that the phone call probably was a hoax because she hadn't received any notification.
