The Funeral service was held on Friday from Wagg Funeral Chapel. Roy Turner underwent heart surgery in Oshawa Hospital last week and is showing good progress. Gord and Debbie Bryans, Patti "and Rick Alpe and Nancy and Bob Bryans along with about 50 friends | and relatives held a retirement par- ty for Bob's sister-in-law Orlee Bryans of Fenelon Falls. Orlee had nursed for forty-one years, most of it at Ross Memorial Hospital in the Obstetrics Department. On Thurs. evening there was a large turnout for the first meeting of 'the Blackstock Surviving With Style 4-H Club. Mr. Ron Hoskin, a local car dealer and mechanic, was kind enough, to tell us what we _ should and should not do to keep our vehicles running smoothly and look- ing good. Following his presentation we split into two clubs and elected the following officers for the Blackstock II Club: President- Ken Wilson; Vice-president- Nancy Green; Secretary- Roxanne Larmer; Reporter- Deanna Jacob. This year the United Church Women are celebrating the 25th An- niversary of its formation into the one group from the former Women's Association and the Women's Mis- sionary Society. Church women have been meeting in Prince Albert since chur- ches were first established here in the 1800's but our earliest written records are dated in 1916 and report the formation of the Ladies Aid Society of the Methodist Church in Prince Albert. The purpose of this Society was, and I quote, "To assist in every department of the church work that may commend itself to the judge- ment of its membership, such as the visitation of the sick, the stranger meeting. Blair Martyn gave an in- teresting talk on the work of the Lions Club and mentioned that they are having Wintario in Blackstock in March. Norma gave the worship with her theme "'The Winning Power of Love.' Because of the Presbyterial on March 10, our next meeting will be March 3. Ruby Van Camp presented an ex- cellent program with 'Love' the theme. The meeting closed with the Benediction. On Sat. evening, Roy and Edith McLaughlin hosted a McLaughlin family get-together. Guest speaker Blair Martyn was introduced and gave a very in- teresting and informative talk about the Lions Club, the meaning of the guest and their colours and how the Club operates. Minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted and a short business session followed. The group was encouraged to write two letters each to the government op- posing Bill C-22 proposing changes to Canada's drug patent law hy which generic drugs which are much cheaper would be no longer readily available. One letter was to go to the Prime Minister and the other to the Minister of Corporate Affairs. The Worship given by Marion Larmer was on the 'Bent Over Woman' Luke 13, verses 10-16.
