: is AS Sg HO TF Association could be formed Attention horse owners! A Seagrave woman wants to hear from horse owners throughout the Scugog area interested in starting a local horseman's association. Terry Pereira, the owner and operator of Northwood Equestrian Centre, has been involved with the Uxbridge Horseman's Association since its inception six years ago and she'd like to start a similar organization in this area. In Uxbridge, the association was founded by 10 people who wanted to get together in order to trail-ride. Since then, it has expanded to in- clude a constitution, monthly meetings, and various fundraising activities. Its members, which now total nearly 50, still trail ride, but they also arrange clinics, shows and even dances. Mrs. Pereira would like to do something like that here, for people who have backyard horses or board. If enough people are interested, she'd donate the usg of her proper- ty for trail rides, small friendly school shows and 'clinics, to teach people more about their animals. "Basically, the association offers a good time without spending a lot of money," she said. If the association does come together, and becomes successful, she suggests it might be able to assist running the shows at the Port Perry Fair, as well as improving the show ring and jumping facilities. If that happens, she hopes the association could run shows at the grounds throughout the season, similar to the way shows operate at the Uxbridge Fairgrounds. "If not," she said, "we can always run our shows here at Northwood." In the meantime, however, she'll be happy just to hear from any horse owners wanting to form such an association. Interested people can call her at 985-8359. "It will be good for people who board to learn more about caring for their horse," she said. "There seems to be so many horses around here, and I think it would be great if their owners could get together and get something going."
