8 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. February 17, 1987 Bald as a billiard ball, Dennis Henderson was persuaded to shave his head for a spot in a com- 'mercial plugging a well known candy bar. He said, "why not," for the price was right, enough SPR details). Hair today, gone tomorrow Cf you see Dennis Henderson these days, chances-are the Scugog Island resident will be wearing something very warm on his head. He's as bald as a billiard ball and he admits the February weather is tough to take when there's not a single strand of hair to protect the old dome from the cold: blasts of winter Last week, Dennis shaved his scalp willingly for a good cause: money. A friend.of his works as an adver tizing agent in Toronto and convinc- ed Dennis that he would fit the bill perfectly for a role ina TV commer- cial plugging a weil known chocolate bar The c¢ ommercial producers wanted somebody who is big, gruff and looks well, mean and nasty. The. only other requirement was for that somebody to be totally free of any hair on the scalp. Dennis agreed. He took the razor to his head and was in Toronto one day recently for some five hours of filming for the commercial. He won't say just how much he was paid for his work, other than it was a good fee. (More than enough to keep him supplied with warm head- gear. for the rest of the winter). And he's not certain when or if, his role in the commercial will appear on the air. There were several other people with roles in the commercial. For his part, Dennis simply had to look mean and tough in a black t- shirt, take a big bite from the can- dy bar and say "'Tastes great." Looking mean and tough is no pro- blem for Dennis. He's a big man who did some amateur boxing in his younger days. With his * bald head, in fact to more than keep him in a supply of to- ques for the rest of the winter. (See story for He took it all off for his acting debut thick mustache and goatee, he looks like he could step into the ring. But the gruff exterior is onlv skin deep. Underneath, there is an easy going personality and a sharp sense of humour. Dennis told the Star last w oul, he'd be willing to do more commer- cials "if the price is right." And he said. he may just keep the bald *"Yul Brynner look for a while, despite the cold weather. A lot of people have been telling him the look kind of suits him. Dennis is down-playing the whole thing to a point, especially his role in the commercial. "It was no big thing, really." "I wouldn't have said anything to anybody about this, but a lot of peo- ple keep asking me why in heck I would shave my head in the middle of February," he said. 4 HAPPY Tin SPECIAL!
