Two minutes later, Wilson scored the prettiest goal of the night on a clever passing play from Greg War- riner and Dave Sims. That made it "five-zip for the MoJacks, and when the Muskies Steve Black took a five minute slashing major, the flood- - gates opened and the rout was on. In the span of three minutes and 34 seconds, the MoJacks popped in five power play goals. Hitting the twine in this flurry were Jim Lewis, Chris Nicholson, Wilson with his and Darren Nesbitt. The Muskies got one back late in the second as Duane Webster spoil- ed Brian Tarleton's bid for a shut- out. Each of the girls deserve praise for the team ef- fort that they gave in this Ottawa "B'" Tournament. Congratulations on bringing home the bronze! © 'MoJacks dispatch Muskies in four straight With a commanding 10-1 lead, the MoJacks simply coasted through the final period, allowing two Muskie goals by Bill Quackenbush and Chuck Phillips. With just over five minutes to play, the MoJacks Brian Stevenson rounded out the scoring with a good, hard shot from 25 feet in front of the net. It was the first goal pf the season for Steven- son and he enjoyed the moment. MoJacks out-shot the Muskies 39-28. Brian Tarleton played two periods and Paul Goreski took over 'in the final frame. Rick Wilson led the MoJacks scoring parade with three goals and three assists. Based on the three previous games in this series, MoJack fans and players had been expecting fireworks, but referee John Cane kept things under control. The Muskies took 16 minors, one major and a game misconduct, while the MoJacks took 13 minors and one five minute major to Dave Sims for slashing. But it was the MoJack power play which again proved to be the dif- ference in this game. In the series, the MoJacks clicked 15 times on the power play. Head coach George Burnett said at the conclusion of the game he was relieved the series was over. He said he was surprised the Muskies opted to play it rough and chippy, and it hurt them as the MoJacks cleaned up on the power play. And he had some strong words of praise for his troops who 'showed a lot of class to stay away from un- necessary penalties. They were ask- ed to do this and they did," said Burnett. : When asked which team he would prefer to face in the next series (Ux- bridge or Little Britain) Burnett in- dicated his personal preference would be the Bruins. He was the assistance coach 'in Uxbridge last season. He noted that aside from one George Burnett -words of praise game, the MoJacks enjoyed pretty good successagainst the Bruins dur- ing the regular schedule, and predicted that if the Bruins and Mo- Jacks square off: goaltending would be the key. By wrapping up the series with Lindsay in four straight, the Mo- Jacks enjoyed a week's rest before starting the next series. And they can use it as several players are on the limp with an assortment of bruises. Aside from Craig Menzies who's out for the season with a. broken shoulder; the MoJacks should be free of injuries going into the next series. "And the team is on a bit of a roll. The last time they lost a game was on January 30 (8-6 to Lindsay). Since then, they won one, tied two in regular season play and swept four straight from the Muskies in the playoff series. Over those last seven games, the team has given up just 21 goals, while scoring 40. And in the Vern MacGregor Divi- sion final. the Bowmanville Eagles have opened a 1-0 lead in games over the Ajax Axemen, with a 5-2 win in Ajax on Sunday night. . The Port Perry-Uxbridge series should be a good one. Both teams finished with 47 points during the regular schedule. but the MoJacks were awarded first place due to a better -won-lost record against the Bruins In six matches during the regular schedule. the MoJacks won three of them by scores of 3-1, 5-2 and 7-3 Two games wound up in a 33 deadlock and the Bruins won one game by a big score of 12-4 Both teams have plenty of speed along the forward lines and no shor- tage of players who can pop the 'd puck in the net at any time. With a week's rest since the Lind- say series, the MoJacks are healthy going into the Uxbridge series, aside from Craig Menzies who's out for the season with a broken collar bone. The Bruins are reported to have a couple of players out with in- juries sustained in the Little Britain series. The rivalry between these two teams has been intense all season long. thanks in part to the fact that MoJack head coach George Burnett worked as the assistant in Uxbridge last season and netminder Brian Tarleton was a Bruin last year. On the other side of the coin. two members of this year's Bruins, defenseman Rob Nicholson and for- ward Paul Butterworth were in Mo- Jack uniforms last vear The series gets underway this Wednesday might (Feb. 25) at the Scugog Arena with face off at 8:30 PM i { , HCH MR AR SL AER ee ST...
