28 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. February 24, 1987 At Sutton tournament On Sunday February 22 the Swamp Garage Novice House League team travelled to Sutton for a tournament. The boys were full of excitement and took to the ice to face off against Highland Chevy-Olds from Aurora. The Port team played a super game with the play being in the opponents end most of the game. _All of Port's players played excep- tionally well but were shut down repeatedly by the good goaltender from Aurora. Robbie Martyn scored Swamps first goal assisted by Daryl Bourgeois; our second goal was scored by Daryl McEnaney also assisted by Daryl Bourgeois. The Aurora team scored their last of three goals late in.the third period to end the game 3 to 2 in their favour. M_V P. for this game.was won by Robbie Martyn who gave a great ef- fort throughout the game. . After a three hour break the Swamp team geared themselves up to take to the ice with more deter- mination and only victory on their minds. The Port team swamped the team ; - ---- J ' from Nobleton 9 to 0. This game featured some excellent passing plays and great heads-up hockey Port's defence of Jason Logan, Brad Morton and lan McCready and Jerry Blackburn all played tough hockey, constantly standing up to "their opponents blue line and ham- mering the puck in time and time again. Both forward lines of Darryl Moase, Greg Pugh and Matt Koetse, Daryl McEnaney, Daryl Bourgeois, Duane Rombough, and Robbie Martyn substituting in both lines constantly over powered the team from Nobleton. Daryl . McEnaney had an excellent game scoring 2 goals and setting up 5. Daryl Bourgeois scored three times to-get a hat trick and assisted on one. lan McCready also had a hat trick and one assist this game and showed good defence as well as offence. Port's final goal was scored by Matt Koetse. Other assists on the Swamps goals went to Brad Morton, Darryl Moase, Greg Pugh, and Rob- bie Martyn. Matt Hobbs was not tested too much in this game but YM floor hockey On Feb. 16; Port Perry Oilers overpowered Maple Leafs by a score of 9-6. Scoring for the Oilers were Kevin Pearce with 4, Louis Whitfield and Mike Tripp with 2 each and: Michael Connell 1. Mike Hepburn picked up-a hat trick for the Maple Leafs while, Brenda Lawrence got 2 and Blair Prechitko 1 For the Juniors, Fireballs played the Jets to a 7-7 tie. For the Fireballs, Cameron Fherler got the hat trick while Trisha Pearce stored 2 with singles gommg to Steven Lawrence and Jeanette Wassink Scoring for the Jets were Jeremy Pee Wees oust Huntsville -On Friday mght the Port Perry Pee Wee Legionnaires ousted the Huntsville team from their playoff series with a strong 7-4 win Port Perry quickly took the lead in the first period with the score . Brendon Gibson, Jamie Irvine and David Clouthier with 2 each and Lindsay Coffey with 1. In Blackstock. Bruins tied the Canadiens at 4, For the Bruins, Mike Leach scored 2, while Martin Stubbs and Jay Buma with 1 each. Chris Chorostecki scored 2 for the Canadiens while singles went to Agnew and Kendall Chorostecki The North Stars shut out the Flyers by a score of 440. Scoring for the North Stars were Brenda Tromans with 4. Ronnie Kelly with 3 and Dillon Weber with 2 board sitting at 5-1 Brett Puckrin scored the first goal with the pass coming from Jody Logan and Dan Sluggett. Dan Sluggett scored Port's second goal with the assist from Steve Laird. On the next face off Swamp wins consolation made good stops when'he had to 'M.V.P. for this game was awarded to Daryl M¢Enaney and was very well deserved. Super game Daryl! After the excitement of the vic- tory the boys were to advance to the Consolation finals. The super coaching of Bernie McEnaney, Brian Morton and Randy Logan helped to prepare with Swamp team for what became their final victory of the day. Port faced off against a team from Sutton. Matt Hobbs was scored on first, and the Sutton team took a 1-0 lead. Port retaliated only 43 seconds later on a goal by Daryl Bourgeois from Jerry Blackburn. Ian McCready scored again in the first period with assists going to Darryl Moase and Matt Koetse. Port then scored in the second period to take a 3-1 lead. Another goal scored by Daryl Bourgeois assisted by Daryl McEnaney. The Sutton team kept coming back to make the Port team work harder and to dig deep to keep on pushing for the win. Daryl Bourgeois scored two more goals, one assisted by lan McCready and Matt Koetse and the other by Daryl McEnaney. Ports other two goals were scored by Ian McCready, one unassisted and the other assisted by Darryl Moase who was robbed on two breakaways and Matt Koetse. The final score for this game was 6-3 for the victorious Swamp team. M.V.P. for this final game was awarded to Daryl Bourgeois and was also well deserved. Congratula- tions Daryl! The forwards all played well in all three games of the day as did the defence and our goalie. All three games gave the excited parents great hockey plays and the. day finished with the players. coaches and spectators leaving Sutton tired. and proud of the way this little team displayed their talent. : Dan Sluggett again won control and quickly passed to Jody Logan who went in for the shot but laid up a great pass to Dan who found the open corner. Over the weekend of February 21-22 the Malmont Farm Atoms played at home and away in two ex- hibition contests and continued to show excellent playoff style hockey by skating to a 5-2 and 3-0 victories. On Saturday, February 22 the Malmont Atoms hosted the Oshawa Bruins which proved to be quite a physical match with the hometown club coming up with a 5-2 victory. The first period saw no score. In the second period Sean McEnaney - finally found the mark as he scored the first and second goals of the game for the atoms, assists were given to Jeff Card with one and Adam Johnston with one. In the third period Sean McEnaney scored his hat trick on a very well played penalty shot to give the Port Perry squad the lead. At the 6:54 mark. Gavin Cochrane scored unassisted on a nice shot from the point. The final goal was scored by Jeff Card assisted by Sean ~ McEnaney and Adam Johnston. _. On Sunday, February 22 the Mal- PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOP Atoms on track with two wins mont Farm Atoms travelled to the Oshawa Civic Auditorium to play an exhibition contest with the LNHL Red Wings. This proved to be a good solid effort by all the players as they combined a good forechecking and solid defensive play to skate to a 3-0 shutout. The first period saw both clubs skate strong but no scoring. In the second period Scott Heasman put the Green Machine on the scoreboard unassisted. At the 6:45 mark Chad Garvock drilled a hard shot home assisted by Steve. Desautels. ' In the third period Duane Empr- ingham scored the final goal of the game on a super wrist shot assisted by Mike Sluggett. The Malmont Farm Atoms are still uncertain as to their next playoff game as the series:from the east is still ongoing. P.S.
