The programs have been extend- ed into 1987 and 1988, however, changes have been made to both programs, which are administered by the Ontario Development Cor- porations on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation. TRIP is a loan guarantee pro- gram for new eonstruction, expan- sion and upgrading of tourism facilities throughout the province. The maximum loan is $1 million for new projects or $750,000 for a first- time loan for existing operations. The loan is guaranteed to 90 percent of the principal. As a new condition of loan assistance under the TRIP pro- gram, application will have to pro- vide a plan of reasonable access and facilities for disabled persons. "Tourism Ontario, which represents the industry, has called the TRIP program the 'most pro- ductive, best-leveraged public in- vestment ever created in this coun- try," Eakins said. "TRIP and the Grading Assistance loans have im- proved the quality of tourism / facilities across Ontario. They are being extended because of their tremendous economic benefit tothe tourism industry." In 1987, the program will be modified by raising the loan limit from $50,000 to $100,000 and by mak- ing loans available to operations - with annual revenues not exceeding $1.5 million, up from the previous limit of $1 million. Over 900 properties are now par- ticipating in the grading program. $1 million has been set aside for this 'program in 1987. Anyone interested in applying for a loan under the TRIP or Grading Assistance Loans programs should contact their local office of the On- tario Ministry of Tourism and Recreation or the Ontario Develop- ment Corporation in their area.
