Joy hits the big one-nine Blackstock and Area News by Joyce Kelly Happy birthday Joy Werry who celebrated the "Big One" for young people on Sunday. Hope you had a great day Joy. Happy birthday greetings to Craig: 'Paisley in Portage-LaPrairie for next week. Yes, Craig many people in this area often think about you. "The Bob Bryans have had a busy week - visitors of Anne and Bill MacIntyre of Caesarea, lunch guests Wed. of Babe and Wilf Brown of Oshawa, and on Thurs. were lunch guests of Marg and Alf Tom- chishin, Carnegie Beach on Scugog Island. Marg and Alf, former residents of this area have been out in Calgary since early Nov. visiting their sons Brian and wife Lenore and Steven and wife Gloria and family. During that time a new granddaughter arrived and a trip to U.S.A. was enjoyed. Don't forget the Kelly Bonspiel for Tues. March 17 - get your rink ready for this event. On Thurs. March 5th at 6:30 the Handy-Dandy-Fix-Its met at the Blackstock United Church for the regular 4-H meeting. After filling in . some blanks about living on your own, a police officer came to talk about staying alone. Julie Byers thanked him for his informative ideas. Shelley then talked about moving to a new community and how you can meet people. After discussing how to change a fuse, we left for home. Next meeting will be on March 12th at 7 p.m. Plans are underway for the Youth Group Winter retreat on the weekend of March 20-22. While Rev. D. Davis is away with the youth, the Blackstock , United Church con- gregation will welcome Rev. John Smith back to the pulpit on Sunday, March 22. There were no Floor Hockey games played in Blackstock this week, because of the Science Fair in the gym. The Blackstock Bruins travelled to Oshawa for a return game. The Bruins won the game 7-4 with the scorers for Blackstock: Jay Buma 4; Mike Leach 2 and Robyn Cliff 1. Congratulations. The Lions Public Speaking contest on Friday evening in the Town Hall with a good crowd of parents, grand- parents and friends to hear the five excellent speakers. Judges- Sam Cawker, Elizabeth and Joyce Kelly determined the winner to be Steven Kyte who spoke on My Summer Job with Leslie MacKenzie with her speech on My Room as runner-up. Other speakers were Christie Cor- den, Jody Logan and Crystal Parker who all gave excellent talks on their subjects. Margaret Ditivesteyn is progress- ing well following back surgery in Wellesley Hospital, Toronto. She is looking forward to coming home before long. Kathleen and Albert Watts recent- ly held a dinner party in honour of her brother Anson Taylor's birth- day. Other guests were his wife Irene, also Joyce Taylor and her lit- tle granddaughter Danielle McLarnon. On Mar. 3, Eileen McLaughlin welcomed twelve members, five visitors, 'and three children to her home for the Morning Unit meeting. Lois Luke gave the worship on the Holy Scripture and Pentecost. Eileen introduced Liz Henderson, a public health nurse with a special interest in Gerontology. She gave an excellent program on Caring for Elderly parents and also showed a short film. The Presbyterial on Mar. 10th and a Fashion Show on April 4th were announced. Meeting closed with the Benediction. Nancy and Bob Bryans along with Shirley and Terry McBride of Cam- bray (formerly a neighbour in the Egypt community) spent two weeks in the Tampa area of Florida. Upon their return Nancy and Bob had a pleasant surprise awaiting them. Gord, Deb and Leanna Bryans and Patti and Rick Alpe had completed renovations on their master bedroom started two years ago - complete with furniture, carpeting and waterbed. Quite a welcome home. Harry and Bertha McLaughlin were recent dinner guests of Kathleen and Albert Watts. PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 10, 1987 -- 31 HIGHEST QUALITY TRADE-INS USED CARS 1986 BUICK LESABRE LTD.
