12 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, Marc Leisure and health spa replaces 17, 1987 'men's clothing store at plaza Some time in the very near future, the carpenters will move into the former Greg's Mens' Wear Shop at the Port Perry Plaza. - The interior of the shop will undergo major renovations to prepare for 'the opening of "Lifestyle 2000", a leisure and health spa operated by Hugo and Renate Stiller of Utica. ~ Where once there had been rows of suits, mens shirts and slacks, racks of ties and socks, there soon will be tanning salons, whirlpools, dry saunas and rooms where the muscles can be toned and firmed electronically. But according to Mr. Stiller, the new facility will not bé a "fitness centre like Vie Tanny's"". There will be no weight rooms for pumping iron, no jogging track and no high energy groups work-outs in aerobic dancing. Renate and Hugo Stiller with their daughter Rebecca seen here in photo, will be opening a new health and leisure spa in Port Perry, once renovations are completed by the end of next month. Mr. Stiller told the Star last week, the extensive renovations are due to start almost immediately, and he hopes to be open for business by the end of April. : Lifestyle 2000 is a fairly new con- cept in health and leisure franchise operations. There are several facilities already open in Ontario and numerous more to be opened this year. | The concept of "Lifestyle 2000" was developed by Franz Berger, a European with an extensive background in the development, construction and sales of equipment for home and spas. Mr. Stiller and his wife Renate, who are both of German origin, say they heard of the franchise on Ger- man Language radio programs and {sec to look into it for the Port Perry area, - With the cost of the renovations, the franchise fee and the purchase of the spa equipment, they are sink- ing a considerable amount of money into this new business. They are ob- viously convinced that Port Perry is ready for such a facility and they say they hope to attract customers from the surrounding area, in- cluding Uxbridge. Mr. Stiller was a drafting and welding instructor for many years at the St. John's training school for boys in Uxbridge. Several years ago, he had to give up teaching after developing a form of arthritis (ankylosing spondylitis) which at- tacked many of the joints in his body and left him a near cripple. He told the Star that he began to take an active interest in natural remedies certain herbs, a strict vegetarian diet, abstinence from any chemical based drugs) and following an operation two years ago to implant steel hip joints, his health has been steadily improving. He plans to take an active, but limited role in the day to day runn- ing of the business. He went back to teaching last September, but when the "'Lifestyle 2000" opportunity came along he decided to give up the classroom for good. Renate Stiller will also be work- ing actively in the new business several days each week. She has been a flight attendant with Air Canada for the past 16 yéars and will continue to work a couple of days each week on overseas f lights from Canada to Europe. The Stillers are in the process of hiring a fy) time assistant to work with them in the new facility. "I was ready for a change (from teaching) and when this came along we decided the time was right," said Hugo in an interview in his home ip Utica last week. Along with tanning, whirlpools, muscle toning and saunas. the Stillers will be marketing several health related products including weight loss drinks, herbal teas an vitalizer concentrates. They will also have water purification units for sale for use in homes and apartments. . Hugo and Renate are enthusiastic -about their new business venture in Port Perry and are looking forward to the day when "Lifestyle 2000" opens its doors to the public. They believe it's an idea whose time has come for this community. by May Donnelly The 105th Annual Meeting of the Lindsay Presbyterial of the Woimeii's Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church in Canada 'took place in St. Andrew's Church, Lindsay on Wed.
