Bowmanville Better health is wished for Roy G Smith, Kathy McLaughlin, Margaret Duivesteyn, and Roy Mor- row who have been in hospital. Sympathy is extended to Leona (Devitt) Wilson on the recent pass- ing of her husband, Gordon Wilson, after a lengthy illness. Both Gordon and Leona have many relatives and friends in this area. Kathy and Roger Hewitt of Thor- nhill were dinnér guests with her grandmother Mrs. Flora Samells on Saturday evening. On Tuesday. the Ladies Curling Club held a very enjoyable jitney to conclude the curling activities for another year. The day consisted of two eight end curling games and a delicious pot-luck dinner. Winners Joyce Kelly, Helen Nesbitt, Lois Dallas and Connie Southern were announced by president Yvonne Burnett. Second prize was won by Lorna Edgerton, Mary DeMer- chant, Lisa Kristensen and Nancy Barr while third place was a tie of Elaine Bailey, Yvonne Burnett, Ver- na McMahon, Sandy Churchill and Mary Mackie, Jill Leach and Lisa Phillips and Ria Hoogeveen. The Awards Pot Luck Banquet for all leagues--Mixed and Women will be held on Friday, March 27. . While we finished dessert, Blair Martyn told us a brief history of the Lions Club throughout the world and at Blackstock, what it stands for and what is done as a service club. Mrs. Luke thanked him. . The President, Edith McLaughlin, opened the meeting with the singing of the Ode and repeating the Mary Stewart Collect. The Roll Call **'Name the Author of the Last Book you Read'; was aswered by 13 members and 2 visitors. The programme consisted of in- formation by Flora Samrells: a reading on orange crates a few years back by May Shortridge, and Helen Bradburn read about The Groundhog that Didn't Go Metric. Mrs. McArthur replied to the Mot- to ending with a poem on gardening. Kathleen Watt led in an Irish song. Dora Martyn told of how we might organize .a Heritage Day for the Public School in the fall for Centen- nial Year. We have some articles to go to Bowmanville Museum. May Shortridge offered to make a craft to be sold at the W.1. 90th anniver sary at North Bay. It was dec ded to purchase bread and butter plates for the cupboard in the hall. Meeting closed with O Canada Don't forget pot luck dinner next month with the reports. On Friday evening Mrs. Tina Wolters and her daughters hosted a bridal shower for Karen Post, bride- elect. After Karen opened her many lovely gifts, she replied fittingly. A delightful social time was enjoyed. On Thursday, March 12 the Han- dy Dandy Fix-Its met at the Blackstock United Church at 7 p.m. After the roll call of Name Your Favourite Food at the Restaurant, the minutes were read by Diane Densmore. Shelley Holliday then ex- plained to us how to use liquid and dry measures. We headed for the kitchen to make pizza, salad, pudding and hot chocolate. Leaders Craig Larmer and Janice Beechey instructed us how to effi- ciently do our grocery shopping. We then devoured our food and left for home. Jim and Barb Byers, Jeff, Julie and Jennifer were Sunday dinner guests of 'Bob and Maureen Sedgwick and family of Norwood. On Thursday two bus load of students and teachers of Cartwright High School spent a day at: the Toronto Science Centre where they studied topics of interest to their science programmes. Steven Kyte a student at Cartwright Central School in Blackstock has earned himself a trip to Stouffville March 24 to 'compete in the Lions public speaking competitions. He placed first in the Junior Division at competitions held recently in Blackstock. Steven's topic is "My Summer Job," an account of his work with his Dad at the saw mill. The meeting was open ed by the president followed by the singing of O'Canada. with a fair crowd. General business was in order. At the close of the meeting tea. coffee and cookies were served by the March lunch group. after which cards were enjoyed by man) members.
