| 26 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 24, 1987 During the school break last 22 hockey teams from. week, Oshawa, Bowmanville, Port Hope, Newcastle, Sutton, Peterborough, Bewdley and Uxbridge came to SCugog Arena fo compete against 18 teams from Port Perry in the se cond annual Port Perry Minor Hockey House League Tournament Twelve Atom teams and twelve Novice teams played off in round robin play on Monday and Wednes day respectively. The Pee Wee's competed on Thursday with the Bantams taking to the ice on Fri day On Saturday, the division win ners returned to compete in the Championship games Every player and coach com- peting in the tournament received a momento. The Tripp team played a great game but could not beat the Oshawa goalie. Oshawa scored three goals in the last five minutes of the game to finally pull ahead and earn a 4-0 -victory. Graham Holt of Tripp and Steven Buta of Albert Street were award- ed Best Effort trophies. Oshawa St. Marys defeated Port Perry Lions Club 6-1 in what turn- ed out to be the final game for each team. Lions lone goal was scored by Sean Gawley from Jason Philips and Kevin Ellis. Brad Strickers earned the Best Effort for the Lions while Shawn Doyle was chosen from St. Marys. Oshawa Albert Street advanced to Championship play with a 5-3 win over Port Perry Lake Scugog: Lumber. Scoring for Scugog were Steven Stiles with 1 goal and 1 assist and Kevin Pearce with two goals. Best Efforts were earned by Scugog's Kyle Simms and Oshawa"s Steven Buta. North Oshawa Park defeated Port 'Perry U.A'W. 2-0 to create a three way, tie with Bowmanville Lange's Photo. U. A.W. advanced to the Championship round because of its better goals for/against record. - Robert McEachern of U A.W. and Owen Terreau of North Oshawa Park were awarded Best Efforts. In the final game of the day Port Perry Whitby Auto Wreckers defeated Oshawa Cedar Ridge 6-2. Scoring for the Wreckers were Mike Labanovich (3 goals), Chad Venning (1 goal, 2 assist), Nicki Beare (1 goal|2 assists), Andrew Pereman (1 goal, 2 assist), Brandon Puckrin (2 _ assists), and Neil Hancock (1 assist). Best Efforts were won by Port's Nicki Beare and Oshawa's Dereck Soltern. Novice - March 18 In the Elmer Lee Division, Port Perry Kinsmen edged Port Perry Printing 2-1 in a very exciting open- ing game. Port Perry Printing's lone goal was scored by Ryan Morden, assisted by Matt Mantel ind Robert Grove. lan Shrigley scored both Kinsmen goals in the last five minutes of the game. Best Effort awards went to the Printer's goalie Sean Allen and the K'nsmen"s lan Shrigley Port Perry Kinsmen defeated Oshawa St. Mary's 5-4 in their next game. Scoring for the Kinsmen were lan Shrigley (4 goals, 1 assist). Jeff Clarke (2 assists), Matt McClelland (1 assist), and Darryl Moase (1 assist) Best Efforts were earned by Shawn Lawerentz for the Kinsmen and Jeff Sasseville for St. Mary's In the final game for this division. Oshawa St" Mary's defeated Port "erry Printing 4-0 Best Efforts were earned by Port's Todd Parry and St Mary's Pat McCormick In the Charles Brignall Division. Port Perry Van Camp Contracting outscored Port Perry David's Hairstyling 6-1. Scoring for David's were Jeff Griffin (2 goals, 1 assist). Daryl Bourgeois (2 goals, 1 assist Scott Swain (1 goal, 1 assist). Kris tian Wooten (1 goal. 1 assist). Best effort awards went to Jeff Brown (left) and Mike Talotti. In the B final, Port Perry's Gord Lewis tripped up UAW from Port Perry 5-3. ton (1 asssit).-David's goal was scored by Matt Brown unassisted. Best Efforts were awarded to VanCamp's Daryl Bourgeois and David's Matt Brown. In the second game for this divi- sion, Port Perry VanCamp Contrac- ting defeated Oshawa MacKenzie Park 5-3 VanCamp's scoring was handled by Daryl Bourgeois 3 goals, 1 assist), Scott Swain, Scot Prechitko (1 goal each), and Jeff Griffin, Kristian Wooten, and Brad Morton (1 assist each). Best Effort winners were Scot Prechitko for VariCamps and Aaron Bilone for MacKenzie Park. Port Perry David's Hairstyling were then edged 4-3 by MacKenzie Park. Matt Brown scored three unassisted goals to take care of the { scoring for David's. Kent Taylor won the Best Effort for David's with Chris Alisauskas picking up the award for MacKenzie. Port Perry Remax Realty faced Oakwood in the first game of the Grant Williams Division. The strongd Remax team skated to a 10-1 vic- tory. Remax scoring was handled by Jon Jamieson (1 goal. 3 assist). Steve Cochrane (4 goals). Matt Phoenix (3 goals), Ryan Diceman (1 goal, 1assist), and Adam Hunter (1 goal). s Best Efforts were awarded to Matt Phoenix of Remax and An- drew Trent of Oakwood.
