by Wendy Clark As we head into the month of March, we started off with Movie's on Monday March 2nd. We watched an interesting movie titled "Hawks Hill." Tuesday was a craft day. The residents worked on St. Patrick table favours and shamrocks. Dur- ing the evening the Port Perry Anglican Church provided an even- ing of worship. Wednesday we had a manicure and pedicure session. While getting their nails done a discussion was held on personal looks & grooming. " Fhe residents were treated to some special entertainment on Saturday. A group of children from the Scugog Friendship Sunday -. School came to visit and sing some of their favourite songs tous. A very special thank you to these fine young people. Monday March 9th we had a bowl- ing game. Top scorer was Lionel Blaikie with 104 points. Tuesday we loaded up the bus and spent the day at the Ontario Science Centre. They tested themselves on several apparatus. We only got to see a fraction of the place so we all wish to go back to see more. During PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 24, 1987 -- & the evening a church service was provided by Scugog Island United Church. On Wednesday afternoon the . residents gathered together for their monthly residefit council meeting. Main topics on issue were final deci- sions for Meal of the Month, supper "club and we had a complaint ses- sion. On the 12th we were busy work- ing on Easter crafts for our upeom- ing bazaar. - On Friday the 13th, we had bak- ing and prepared some delicious fudge. We managed to get through the day with no bad luck. Birthday wishes are being sent out to Mrs. Phylis Midgely (Mar. 22), Mrs. Eva Stone (25), and Mr. George Manderson (29th). Some of the upcoming events in the next two weeks are the Monthly Birthday Party (18th) and our an- March busy at Nursing Home nual St. Patrick's Party. (24) The residents and staff would like to extend our sincere sympathy to the family of the late Mr. Sameul Griffen. Sam was very well known in the community and will be great- ly missed by all who knew him. We have several new volunteers - that have joined our volunteer fami- ly. To these fine people we would like to extend a warm welcome and we hope you will enjoy working here with us. So be sure to get your lucky ticket for only $1.00 'Veterans Remember Korean War Members of Unit 11 (Oshawa and District) of the Korean Veterans Association met Saturday night in Port Perry for a banquet and dance. Association medals and certificates of ap- preciation were presented. He ~ was in his 78th year. 'Jim' was born in Reach Township, June 29, 1909, the fourth son of John Cawker and Leona Boynton. Growing up on the family farm north of Port Perry (now Cas- tle Harbour Estates), he attended the former Yellow School and Port Perry High School. Later, when the family moved to Port Perry. he worked for many years in the fam ly Butcher business, Queen Street " He served as a volunteer fireman niber of Odd and was a one-time mer fellows Lodge On October 23. 1940. he marned Marion Gertrude Peers of Udora and they had two d¢hildren. Thomas Beattie and Lois Mane In 1949, he purchased the former Strong farm, near Manchester where he devoted hist life to the farm, his family and friends, and his hunting. until failing health gradual ly deprived him of these activities A quiet, selfless, hard-working and gentle man, fond of music. sports, reading and good fellowship, he won the love and friendship of those he met. as was evident by the "Patrick respect shown at his recent passing Along with his loving wife Marion, he leaves a mourning sen, Thomas Beattie Cawker of Port Perry, a daughter Lois Marie Heacock and husband lan of Edmonton, a devoted daughter-in-law Kathleen Elizabeth Cawker, and two grand- sons, James Beattie Cawker and John Thomas Cawker. Bereaved also, are four remaining brothers, Gordon of Lindsay. Charles of Toronto. Samuel of Nestleton, Robert of Scugog Island and one sister, Grace ( Mrs. Frank Hastings) of Por Perry. Services were held at the Wagg- McDermott-Panabaker Funeral Home, on Monday, February 23, 1987 - Rev. Charles Clarke of- ficiating. Spring Interment in Pine Grove Cemtery. James Beattie Cawker, grandson and namesake of the deceased was honorary pallbearer | Kathleen Marie LaRose Kathleen Marnie LaRose passed' away suddenly as the result of an accident on Friday, Februarh 6 1987. she was in her 13th year Kathleen Mane LaRose was born in Toronto May 9 ond" She resided in Teronto for 3 years and lived the major portion of her Ife 15 years-in Whitby and later moved to Port Perry in i986 Kathleen made many her short hfe-time and touched many lives Her interests included ammals, theatre arts and music She will be sadly missed by her parents, Barbara LaRose and LaRose, and her older friends in' brothers. Michael of St Catherines, Nmothy of Calgary and Sean of Foronta. She was dearly loved by her Grandmother Anna O Brien and friends.
