The club was originally establish ed in 1974 and has moved with dif- . ferent instructors to various loca- tions in Port Perry and Prince Albert. When Sensei Rob re-opened the club in March 1983 he had & beginners class of (35) students. His senior students, now at the Black Belt: level, were among the first students of that year. : "When I began the club I felt the youngest student I would accept would be 12 years of age," says Rob. "But many adult students had younger brothers and sisters or sons and daughters who wanted to study Karate. | tried a childrens class, separate from the adults, but very quickly integrated the two, so families could train together. In the Ontario Wado System I believe Port Perry is the only club which has done this successfully. Most clubs keep the children separate." Rob is quick to point out that children do need special attention in their training to properly unders- tand the true meaning of Karate, the adults learn patience and understanding while the children have role models to observe and question about aspects of their training. "We have a very social group here," says Rob. "We have annual and periodical events, parties, awards nights, training canips, etc. OPENING for the SEASON __.
