2 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 7, 1987 Council OK's study for proposed recreation site Scugog Township council has given the green light for a feasibili- ty study on municipal lands near the Scugog Arena, lands proposed as the site of a new Fairground The study, to be done by Sesquaig Inc. of Ottawa, will include an engineering report on the lands ahd will examine the cost of proposed facilities. Sesquaig is the company which prepared the Recreation Needs Study for Scugog late last year The decision by council to authorize the detailed feasibility study on' the lands came March 30 after a lengthy in-camera meeting with a special committee from the Port Perry Fair Board. That meeting lasted three hours and it was the first time the Fair Board committee and members of council went 'behind closed doors" _ in an effort to reach some kind of an agreement over the proposed relocation of the Fairgrounds. Scugog Mayor Jerry Taylor declined to go into specifics about the meeting, but he did say in his opinion it was "productive" and there appear to be positive signs on both sides to solve the dispute before the Durham Board of Education ex- propriation hearings get underway The Board of Education has laun- ched expropriation proceedings for seven acres of land at the present Fairgrounds on Simcoe Street as the site for a new elementary sc hool. ) Mayor Taylor said last week he expects further meetings between Township council and the Fair Board committee to take place in the near future, and the Fair Board committee will be consulted by Ses- quaig during the preparation of the feasibility study. Meanwhile, an enquiry officer has been appointed by the provincial government to hear the expropria- tion arguments once a hearing is called. He's James R. Webster, a lawyer from Fenelon Falls. The Port Perry Fair Board has of- ficially filed an objection to the ex- propriation of the seven acres by the Board of Education. No date for the expropriation hearing has been set.
