Area Christian School to opens this September The Scugog Christian School Association has been very busy in the past months by working towards a goal set before them: to have a Christian school in Port Perry for September 1987. This school is for the elementary level (Kindergarten through grade 8) and will be located in Port Perry. The building and property commit- ee are working on the final details as to the exact location of the school site. : The school is an interdenomina- tional Protestant Christian school which will have both teachers and students from various churches in the area. "t is affiliated with the On- tario Ali.ance of Christian Schools, which contains more than 65 such schools and is the largest indepen- dant school alliance in the province. The curriculum is very similar to that of the public school system, however, there is one very impor-"*- tant difference and that is that all the subjects, from math to physical education, are taught from a Chris- tian perspective. From, this the students are taught to know God, love Him and to see that they have a place in His plan. Christian schools are not bound to the Ministry of Education's "guidelines, however, these guidelines are followed to a great extent. One of the goals of the school is to offer the best education possible. There are many committees at work on starting this school and most of the committee members are parents of the students. Parents play a very important role in the school and their involvement is stressed. They help out in many areas; from interviewing teachers (education committee) to raising needed funds (fund raising committee) The school receives no govern- ment support financially therefore all the, funds needed are raised through tuitions, membership fees and drives. If anyone is interested in the school or in enrolling their children please call 416-985-3962 or 705-357-3787. Also look for an ad under "Coming Events' this week and next. observe Good Friday.
