20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 28, 1987 - Best Supporting Actress and Actor awards were presented to Joy Werry (as Grandmaw Frump) and Darryl Prosser (as Charles Wedgewood), a scarey and grumpy combination. J Cartwright High School is divided into three teams jn a House League format, the Tiger, Alikats and Ookpiks. Last Thursday and Friday nights, each of the three houses presented a one- act play, which were adjudicated by three judges. The Tigers performed Feudin' Mountain Boys. the Alikats presented Two Plus One Equals Four, but the winning play was The Mystery of At One-Act Play Competition Ghoulish wins first Blackstock and Area News by Joyce Kelly Thursday and Friday nights gales of laughter could be heard from the Blackstock Recreation Centre as the High School students presented their Annual programme of Three One Act Plays. The judges, Mr. Doug Tangney, Mr. Dave Ellis and Mrs. Diane Lackie had a very dif- ficult task in deciding the winners from the three plays -- "Feudin' Mountain Boys" directed by Dawn Locke of the Tigers; the Alikats presentation of "Two Plus One Equals Four' under the direction of Jeff Byers; and "The Mystery of Mouldy Manor" directed by Natalie Green from the. Ookpiks. Honourable Mention went to Aaron Lishman, Alikat and Donna McIn- tyre, Ookpik. Joy Werry won Best Supporting Actress for her por- trayal of Grandmaw Frump while Darryl Prosser was presented with Best Supporting Actor for his Charles Wedgewood in the Ookpik production. Best Actress went to Tiger, Jennifer Fletcher as Cora Mae Frump. Best Actor was Eric Douma as the crazy Dr. Aleric Carver. Best Director was awarded to Natalie Green for the Ookpik play. Congratulations to all students involved for an enjoyable evening of Mouldy Manor by the Ookpiks! The cast and crew included (bottom, from left) Eugene. Myrtle Gimblett, 3. Margaret Wright, 4. Elva VanCamp, 5. Pat Porrill, 6. Harold Swain, Low - Meta Fish. Draws were won by Clarence 'Masters, Muriel Lawrence and Ber- nice Wells. Last Saturday Cecil Gibson was surprised with a birthday party to celebrate a "special'"' birthday. Hosting the party were his wife Marie, daughters Anne Vanderheul, Grace Johnson and Eleanor Gibson. Family members and close friends attended. At the regular morning service of St. John's Anglican Church Rev. Ansley Tucker conducted the Sacra- ment of Infant Baptism when Nicole Elizabeth, daughter of Janice and Garry Beechey was baptised. God- . parents were Ken Crawford and Lois Clark. Rev. A. Tucker preach- ed a fine sermon on a post-Easter theme. The sacrament of commu- nion was conducted. ~ Following the service Janice and Garry hosted a family gathering in Nicole's honour. Guests included Jack and Dorothy Beechey, Paris, John and Julie-Mary Dale, Bramp- ton, Frank, Lois and Meredith Cook, Sudbury, Bessie Crawford, Grant, - Lorna and Lisa Edgerton and Ken Crawford all of Blackstock. Dennis and Cindy Werry, Robert and John hosted a surprise birthday dinner party for her mother, Mrs. Wilma VanCamp on Sunday even- "ing at their home in Kedron. Guests were Wilma and Keith VanCamp, Mr. and Mrs. Percy VanCamp, Mer- rill and Norma VanCamp and Valerie VanCamp, Debbie Van- Camp and guest Scott Howie, Jay VanCamp and guest Kelly Hart, Harvey and Joan Graham. Happy birthday, Wilma! On Tuesday night the 4-H groups of the area met for the Surviving with Style Achievement Program. After the usual number of skits and demonstrations awards were presented. Nancy Green received recognition for the completion of twenty-four projects; Natalie Green was given the award for eighteen projects completed; Esther Kelly received the award for twelve pro- jects successfully completed while Jill VanCamp was recognized as completing six projects. The Blackstock United Church Centennial Committee held yet another special event to celebrate - the church anniversay. On Sunday evening a full crowd was treated to the musical talents of the Cart- wright Public School students as well as the Blackstock United , Church Choirs. After Rev. D. Davis welcomed the crowd the Primary Choir directed by Kathy Moron delighted everyone. Following a Woodwind duet of Esther Maschke and Leandra Tromans and a trumpet solo by Jeff Kemp, the Junior Recorders directed by Mrs. Butt performed two pieces. After an Alto Saxophone solo by Jennifer Copithorn the Blackstock United Church Junior Choir accompanied by Linda Kyte and directed by Mrs. Donna Kyte sang several delightful pieces. Lorrie Swain accompanied by Laura Gilbank performed a flute solo followed by a woodwind trio consisting of Tracy Hoskin, Julie Corden and Brandie Waldriff. Directed by Mrs. Judy Jeffrey and accompanied by Mrs. Catherine Corden the Junior Choir sang several pieces. Jill VanCamp ac- companied by her mother on the piano played a french horn solo. The evening of song and tune concluded with a musical presentation by the Blackstock United Church Senior Choir. Mrs. Bob Holliday held a suc- cessful sale on Saturday where she sold her cattle and farm machinery. The Durham East Junior Farmers served lunch. The south end of the , village has become a regular checkerboard recently. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Malcolm have moved into their new- ly Gonstructed home while Jamie and Jennifer, Brennan and Alaina moved into the farmhouse while Jeff" Burnett moved into. the former Jamie Malcolm homestead. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Malcolm were Marylou and David Kellogg and Janelle and Natalie-Lou of Welcome; Gord Malcolm and children.
