28 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 5, 1987 Minor softball plans 25th year celebration Minor Softball is celebrating its 25th anniversary in Port Perry this year and the Association is planning a special banquet on May 30 w "salute the first quarter century. + Thousands of young boys and girls "of all ages and skill levels have played softball in the Minor system in Port Perry during those 25 years, thanks to the efforts of a lot of very dedicated coaches, managers and executive members of the organization. Carolyn Best, the 1987 Minor Soft- ball president told the Star last week that the special Anniversary Dinner will be held at the Port Perry Legion and organizers have extended i vitations to all past presidents, ex- ecutive members, rep team spon- sors and players from some of the successful teams over the years. Ontario Amateur Softball Association president Bill Topping will attend the dinner and the even- ing will be MC'd by Wayne Venning. Mrs. Best said the dinner will be a wonderful opportunity for people to get together and "swap stories' about some of the more memorable experiences they have had with this organization since it was formed i in. 1962. Of particular interest will be a 'display of memeorabilia-old a uniforms, photos, clippings--and so on from years gone by. And about 30 people who have been "friends of Minor Softball" over the years will receive special awards from the organization. There is even a chance of a "guest appearance" from a group known as "Vinnie's Minnies."
