That's one of the conclusions reached in a detailed planning report presented June 1 to Scugog Township council on a 40-unit seniors apartment building propos- ed for land behind the Immaculate Conception Church and Separate School on Scugog Street. The pro- posed apartments would be built by the Roman Catholic Diocese in this area. The seven-page report tabled for council June 1 notes that parking for the proposed building would be "shared with the parking area for the church and the school. However, the report says the plans would result in a shortage of some 26 parking spaces, or about 20 percent of what is recommended in local by-laws. "The proposed development (of the apartment units) would preclude the possibility of expand- ed parking with the church and in the long term could result in conges- tion on Scugog Street, albeit for short periods of time," says the report prepared by the Township's planning consultants Totten, Sims Hubicki Ltd. The report suggests to the coun- cil that if the plans are to be approv- ed, the applicants should be re quested to present further informa- tion for the provision of adequate off-street parking. The report also says that before OPEN A STANDARD TRUST SAVINGS ACCOUNT VIDA (OV COULD WIN A the plan gets approval "'there is a need to address the lot grading and the {reatment of surface drainage and storm water management." Another factor of the proposed development the planners feel must be addressed by council is increas- ed traffic along Ash Street. The proposed building would be on the south portion of the Church- owned land fronting on Cedar Street, which currently is an un- opened road allowance. At a public hearing held earlier this year, residents of Ash Street ex- pressed concern about increased traffic flows. Council took no action on the report. It is not known at this time just when 4 decision will be made by council to give the project the green light or turn it down. The D_J.'s are being brought out of retirement and have promis ed 4 . to wipe the dust off their best records of the 50's, 60's and 70° S. For those who are unaware of these guys, Bill Ballinger of Uxbridge and Peter Hvidsten of Port Perry ran one of the most successful teen dances in the area during the 1960's and 1970's in Uxbridge and attracted hundreds of kids every week from Port Perry, Stouff- ville, Claremont, Sutton, Uxbridge and many other communities. Although they have been retired from the DJ business for many 'years, they occasionally get together to spin the discs that made their "Inn Crowd" dance so popular. This should be a welcome treat to many of those from this eras who were a part of these dances some 20 years ago. @e Dennis J Hogan AHD Hearing c Aid Centre ¢f Port Perry Dr E Mueller's Office - 24 Water St S .
