At Stouffville, starting pitcher Lawrie Williams went the distance in a losing cause tossing an eight- hitter over the nine innings played while striking out ten batters. Port led 3-1 until the bottom of the eighth, when Stouffville scored once to nar- row the gap to 3-2. In the ninth inn- ing two hits and an untimely error led to Port's downfall as they gave up two runs to lose a close one 4-3. Leading the offense for the XL Eagles were Larry Pilkey with three hits, Lawrie Williams with two hits and singles going to Colin Wackett, Dave Dickson and Rick Blohm. ° At home on Thursday night Port 'Perry and ACL attempted to play in the rain and managed to make it through six innings before the game was stopped with the score 2-2. With Ken Irvine pitching for Port, the XL Eagles jumped into a quick 2-0 lead after three innings, with ACL coming back with runs in the fifth and sixth innings to gain the tie. The Port Perry hitting was sup- plied by Colin Wackett with two safeties, with singles coming from Jay Williams, Larry Pilkey and Rick Biohm. The team is slowly rounding into form having played excellent ball in the last few games, but not getting a break in a key situation which would make the difference between a close loss and victory. Hopefully _ as the squad begins playing in some "tournaments in the next few weeks "the extra playing time will pay off in a few needed victories. Upcoming league games have the XL Eagles in Greenbank Monday night to face the Gamblers and home Thursday night to host the Claremont/Markham Juniors.
