See a young lady selected from the audience float in mid-air ... See a person cut into three pieces ... see fire-eating ... incredible escapes from a locked crate ... and much more. It is free and it is sure to be a crowd pleaser. -- BAHAMIAN EXTRAVAGANZA -- For those of you who attended the Caribbean Dance on Saturday night last year,-you won't want to miss this year's exciting show. Direct from the Princess Hotel in Freeport, Grand Bahamas, the Scugog Chamber of Commerce is bringing 'you an authentic Bahamas band, including fire eaters, limbo dancers and a magnifi- cent fashion show. The dance features"'Boss and the Conch Shells" and will begin at 9:00 pm. All those attending this dance will have a chance to win a trip for two to the Bahamas as a door prize. This prize has been made available through the generosity of Nonquon Travel, Bahamas Tourist Office and Air Canada. Our thanks to Marg and Dave Waite of Nonquon Travel for making this possible. But he warned that any reduction in personal income taxes will be off- set by taxes elsewhere such as sales or corporate tax. He made the comments while ad- ~ dressing about 200 Liberals at the nomination meeting for Tourism Minister John Eakins who holds the Victoria Haliburton riding. As expected, Mr. Eakins was un- opposed at the nomination meeting and the likeable ten year veteran at Queens Park is considered a strong favourite to win the riding again in the next provincial election likely this fall. In a 20 minute off-the-cuff address to the friendly audience of Liberals, Mr. Nixon offered no hints about when the election will be called, nor did he reveal much detail about the financial platform his party will carry into the campaign. But he did note that the provincial deficit this year is under $1 billion (half of what it was two years ago) and the province is now borrowing - only for capital projects like new schools and hospitals. He acknowledged that provincial funds for operating schools, hospitals, universities and municipalities are 'still not enough," but they are more than they were a few years ago. He ad- mitted that revenue is flowing into the provincial coffers at a better rate than it was in the early 1980's when the Conservative government - was forced to cut back in its grants to schools, hospitals universities.
