The closing service for the Myr- 'tle United Church for the summer ~~ was held June 14 with Communion. - Church will re-open the second Sun- day in September. We hope all - parents in the Myrtle area will keep this in mind and make our Sunday School a' big success for the next year. Rev. The pot luck dinner was great, the weather perfect and lots of fun was enjoyed by all. Jean and Janet Stachow held their piano recital Thursday June 18 and provided an exceptional evening for all who attended. One has been held every summer since. - Samuel and Sarah came from County Cavan in Ireland through Port Hope to Cavan Township where they lived for fourte§n years. In 1836 with their family they moved to Cartwright Township. Ten of their twelve children reached maturity, married and settled at first in Cart- wright. With the exception of Joshua and S.T., they later moved to other areas and descendants now live in nearly all areas of Canada and in United States. On Sunday, July 26, 1987, fifty Recollections A new interest for Seniors & , others who would like to record their "memories for the future is under- way. It started when Seniors, meeting at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute became a writing group. The result is a quarterly magazine which. can be seeh in libraries, nursing homes & museum. The group offers a manual to aid others to get started in this project. Mrs. Grace Milne, a former teacher & Port Perry librarian who retired in 1983 & is well known to library visitors thru 15 years is very enthusiastic over this project & will speak to the Scugog Social Planning Council at their $5 noon luncheon at the Port Perry United Church, Mon- day, June 29th. She will give full details & discuss how a group may' get started in this area. All are welcome. If non-members plan to attend for lunch, please call 985-7732. It's 50 for the Fergusons years of pichics will be celebrated at Blackstock, beginning at 10 a.m. with one of the special centennial services at Blackstock United Church conducted by the Rev. Clarence Ferguson. Registration will follow at the Recreation Centre with chicken barbecue dinner at 12:30. A memory tour to the farms settled by the original Ferguson family, sports, games and visiting will follow. A prize will be given for the oldest car there. Family members are asked to bring any special family mememtos, old photos, pictures of previous picnics etc., to go in the display case or to add to the family charts. A light sup- per at cost will complete the day. So cousins, come along and bring other cousins and meet other cousins. And are you all practised up for the cherry pit spitting con- test? Grant will be back with the trophy and more cherries expecting stiff competition this year.
