The team competed in the North York Soccer tournament over the weekend and even though they failed to win a game, all the players deserve a pat on the back for a fine performance against some stiff op- position. Sorry guys, but a gremlin of some kind went to work in my camera and the photo failed to turn out. Gamblers-Eagle square off The cross town rivalry between the Greenbank Gamblers and the Port Perry XL Eagles will heat up considerably this coming Monday, August 10 as the two teams square off in ghme 1 of a best-of-three 0.AS.A. elimination round. The first game will get underway at 8:30 P.M. atthe park in Green- bank and game two will be at the same time Thursday, August 13 at the lakefront diamond in Port Perry. If a third and deciding game is necessary (and probably it will be) the location will be decided by a flip of the coin. TT The winner of the series advances to the Zone Four final round against either Claremont or Fraserville for a shot at the 0.A.S.A. Intermediate C championship tournament 'in September. The Gamblers and the Eagles of course play in the same division of the Oshawa City and District League and the rivalry is always keen when these teams take the field in league or tournament play. Look for Mark Goreski and Lawrie Williams to get the nod as the opposing pitchers in game 1. The Gamblers are the 0.A.S.A. Intermediate C defending cham- pions in Ontario thanks to their great victory at the tournament held last September in Port Perry. And you can bet they won't give up that title without a real tussle. Game 1 is August 10 at 8:30 in Greenbank and game 2 is August 13, same time in Port Perry. Make a point to take in the games and see some great fastball action between these two traditional rivals. A bud- dy system works whether you're out for a long walk where people are scarce or swimming at a crowded beach or pool. It means someone knows where you are, and can get help if you need it. It's a good idea to encourage kids to be safety con- scious and to take responsibility for each other by making sure they use the buddy system all the time. Another up-coming évent you won't want to miss is the ap- pearance in Port Perry on August 16 of the California Cuties who will play an exhibition game against the Port Perry XL Eagles. All net proceeds from the gate will be turned over to Minor Softball. Game time is slated for.2:00 P.M. Besides un- balancing your ability to think, panic can add to physical problems by making you sweat. That reduc- ed body heat and adds to the possibility of dehydration. So just make it a family habit to use the buddy system at all times and watch it pay dividends in in- creased peace of mind and safety. The Cuties are an entertaining gang and they know their way around a fastball field. They will be sure to please the crowd with their antics on the field combined witha great exhibition of fastball skills. Don't miss this one and bring the en- tire family to the lakefront diamond in Port Perry. 1 YEAR ......
