10 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, August 11, 1987 Cooksons celebrate their golden in rain i | ¥$ It was raining on their wedding day 50 years ago, so it was only fitting for the rain to be pouring down on Madeline and Fred . Cookson's Golden Anniversary celebration, held Sunday at Port Perry United Church. The couple, married August 12, 1937 in a Pickering parsonage, now lives on Queen Street, but resided in Seagrave for 40 years. With three children and four grandchildren, their secrets for a long happy marriage include 'never worrying" and "having lots of patience." Congratulations! Fred and Madeline Cookson of Port Perry were honoured recently by their family and friends on the occasion of their golden anniversary. An afternoon open house tea followed by a family supper in the Port Perry United Church, at which time, guests were present from England, Whitby, Oshawa, Port Perry, Toronto, Seagrave, Bowmanville, Little Britain, C ameron and Oakwood. | "aRene Cookson. Grace Snoddon and Audrey Cookson poured tea. Floral arrangements, cards, gifts and best wishes were received, in- cluding congratulations from MPP Sam Cureatz (who attended in per- son), Gov.-Gen. Jeanne Sauve, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, Prem. David Peterson, MP Alan Lawrence, MP John Turner, and Mayor of Scugog Jerome Taylor. Fred Cookson and the former Madeline Divine were married in Pickering Parsonage on August 12, 1937 and have resided in Scugog area from that time. They have three children, Shirley, Jim and Joyce and four "grandchildren, Mark, Tara, Ann and Adam. The entire wedding party was pre- sent at the anniversary. Several posters and pictures of the couple were on display. The couple wish to express their thanks for all who took the time to attend and honour them in this way. Square dancing designed for the together couples Services will begin again in the Myrtle Church on the second Sun- day in September with Rev. MacRury leading us in worship again. Keep in mind in October the anniversary services with Rev. Bob Rumble our guest speaker, time and date will be specified later. _ Again there will be Square Dance classes if we have enough dancers. Square dancing is one of those together recreations for couples which are most important these days. We will start on September 16 in the church basement. A committee from the Myrtle Church has been investigating Bibles and they have made a pur- chase of a beautiful-new pulpit Bi- ble to grace our church for many years to come. The congregation of Myrtle Church thanks the people who sent donations to help make this purchase possible. Your friendliness is warmly appreciated. The community is saddened by the passing of Mrs. John Grant and we remember her as one of the friendliest of women who listened to the joys and sorrows of so many dur- ing her years as post mistress.
